silence earned ~

when bells
are nearly broken
tho chords
are hanging still
when the choir
folds together
with their silks
when hymns are dashed
as silence earned
banging on
our knees
sore and bruised
the busted
falling down
when truth
we swore would save us
becomes the last
we seek
as walls to spy
flame is all
we breathe
curses pulled
around us
pleas for something
more
to ease the ache
of missing –
to find
what we came for

. . .

Author’s Note:  Sometimes there is no image worthy of the words.  Sometimes, I fall willingly.

until the end
of all we’ve gathered
this my vow
i make to thee
to free my heart
of every wanting –
love that not a tear
shall ease

until the sun
is burned to cinder
spreading heat
across the day
I shall lie awake
til morning –
to pull you in
and beg you stay

until my lips
are words forsaken
coldest night
in which we sleep
I shall dream
your arms around me –
as heaven here
my soul
will keep

pressed
into the pages
here my story lies
a sacred bloom
once crimson
sweet perfume
I close my eyes
and once again
rest beneath the boughs
spied upon
by eyes in search
of mine
melody of nature
music of the trees
ancients raise
a silver canopy
to catch the light
surrendered
by ten thousand
dreamed before
spirits I have spoken
here my heart
a blossom as a kiss
resolved –
as dear my own to taste
the fragile scent
of memory
remains

once
when there was nothing else
I held you –
soft against my stutter
til you became
more of me remembered
than e’er my heart
could hold
quiet as dawn
upon the snow
then I was leaving
o’er and o’er again
leaving you
with everything I ever
knew to be
quiet in the sky
beyond the stars
you waited
til I was gone –
I could hear you
in the pines
in the quiet desperation
of wings against the night
pressed into the ether
my stutter
my surprise
was to find you once again
forgotten why I left
let me stay
remembering the wonder
of why I came

all we've known to love, flowers, home, nature, reminders, seasons, spirit memory, time, truth

where winter stood –
red magnolia blooms
and not so far away
I have wandered
waiting for spring
a serenade of flowers
purple blushed with umber streaks
floating seas of sage

somewhere I know
you’re missing me –
I feel it in my bones
thick as blood
the curse of love
some other to atone

some other truth
an ageless lie –
to me they taste the same
as chicory to brandy –
memory to flame

somewhere
there is no faulting –
or life to intercede
somewhere
we sleep as one
in fields of green

beyond the reach
of wanting –
for another hand to hold
somewhere
the heart remembers
how I miss you
in my soul

age, dream, home, life, love, my house, pieces of me, returning to a home we never left, spirit memory, story, time

what share would I give
of a life fully lived
another life to recall
arms reaching out
from the shadows –
words cut short
by the fall

a house settled back
on the edge of a wood
smoke in the air
in my eyes
steps from my watch
at the window –
dawns a familiar
sunrise

would e’er creation
remember me whole
to places I loved long ago
memories tease
at the edge of my reaching
of something
I already know

Author’s Note: Of those who know me well, a few know me better. They know of the house that has been a part of my dreams since I was a child. As of late, they come less frequent (I have a theory on that) but still. I’ve never been there, and yet I know it, and could find it if chance put me within a mile or two. I know the steps from the porch to the fence, the soft old rose print of wallpaper in the smallest bedroom, the way the wind howls through the trees at night. A dear friend who I shared my stories with once commented that she and I should take a trip in search of ‘the house’. “I’m sure it’s near here, and we could find out who actually lives there.” I froze. She didn’t understand at all. “I live there.”

In another life. I am in the kitchen as morning climbs the steps.  I dance beneath a faded bulb, and worry not for sleepless nights in which I am lost (I am found).  I love.

But in this life, in those moments that reach my soul, I pause. I place my hand against a window, upon someone’s heart. I close my eyes (a snapshot) and whisper “remember this”. ❤

for in the threads
where life is knotted
colors blend to form a new
shade of red
the sunrise sweeter –
as the sea –
a kinder blue
traces
loving graces
pull apart
each fragile weave
spun to webs
of rich communion
the heart expands
as we receive
without permission
one together –
moments broken
til we become
someone’s breath
someone’s only –
someone’s light
outshines
the sun

for more than this
my kiss would wait
my soul would plead
some other –
beginnning
just beyond
the darkest veil

with open arms
of take me home –
a whisper
of deliver
returned again –
to a heart
that loved you
well

closetothis

what soul
would I surrender
for another life to lose
– breath
when there is nothing left
what kiss
would I
refuse

what sorrows
meant to suffer –
for joy when others fail
a spark beyond
the dark –
beyond the veil

when asked
what would I give
what might I take if only one –
what dream of mine
will linger
will linger
when I’m gone
