alzheimers, breath, easy, here, memory, still, time, we begin, wondering

how much of me
still wonders
at this place
we’ve come to be
how many years –
miles
we put behind
how much will i remember
when my days
are all but done
will i recall the light
found burning
in your eyes
remember me
this destiny
when all the rest are gone
fields of ash
winter wheat mistaken
let for this
another grieve
how i loved you so
saved my heart
from wondering
for long

. . .

far from this beginning ~

had i waited
this
a moment more
than twilight turning red
had i listened
as night birds
drew their sighs
had i known
that heaven makes a place
near enough to breathe
to understand
the depths
where love can be
had i traded
every sorrow
when my grief was newly formed
had i bled of tears
a canyon of restraint
had i known before
you would come
to save of me the best
so far from
this beginning
would i wait

i pray
a life of mercy
years for letting go
touch i can
remember
when nights are long
and cold
when days are fresh
fields bare
from winter’s spite
i pray for love
that holds my heart
tonight

. . .

my only hope ~

were this
the hope i lingered o’er
the promise
of one day –
purple flowers bloomed
i didn’t seed
dreams
when i awaken
anew within your arms
were this my only
hope
to live
again

. . .

almost but never gone ~

comfort, dreaming awake, life, love, memory, nature, time, trust, truth

last i knew
the creek was gone
weeds to hide the barn
a falling down
as rivers from the sky
miles beyond
remember this
solace of surrender
silence sworn
to distances between
fuel of forgotten
lives
hastened by a truth
someone stole
my heart
and let me live
loved beneath
the jealous eyes
of jupiter and mars
gathered as a moment
almost
but never gone

save me one last time
or let me dream

. . .

futures to uncover ~

another life, home we never left, love, remembering, star crossed, time, witness to eternity

As promise given
soul to soul –
as sunlight to the shadows –
would for the truth
I burst into a flame –
and leave my mark of cinder –
charcoal
memories etched –

How could I know
the rest of me
was you

Before the past
is ever passed
as futures to uncover –
a moment there
pretending not to be –
A breath in time
but I confess
forever stretched to fill it –
leaving thought
to guard the days
between

Eternity –
a place began
by whispers sworn to silence
Dare I speak
and hear your voice again

Words can never garner
a story so familiar –
you close your eyes
and I resign to sleep

. . .

ached ~

life, love, memory, take me to home, truth

how will i remember
when pieces
are lost
when the box i once owned
burned last july
how will i know
what of love
i have carried
when robbed of the warmth
of your hand
wrapped in mine
how will i know
love was for keeping
when the light
on my porch
has burned out
how will i see
through the dawn
to remember
it is you
i have ached –
coming home
for me now

. . .

all i knew ~

destiny, life, love, remembered home, time, truth

once before
a sunday came
and i was ill prepared
for how the sunlight
paled against your smile
how it was
my heart could be
freed to destiny
some other time
i wished for rhyme
but you
were all i knew

once before
a sunday came
and you
were all i knew

. . .

that i love ~

distance, grace, home, life, love, soul, truth, years

had i the words
more i could say
that would break to your heart
the ways that i love
the ways
i would travel
ten thousand years more
to lay by your side
in the dirt

. . .

the ways i remember ~

as real can be, home, life, love, memory, spirit, trust, truth

by the ways
i remember –
a path through the pines
all i could see
was the light
of your eyes –
a tender come home
melting the miles
by the ways
i remember –
you there
a hand folded softly
with mine
dreams planted sweetly
to heart –
distance
not so
the place
where i still
tender your longing
to moments divine –
a resounding
come home
echoes soft
through the pines

. . .
