I’ve been waiting
out the winter –
for another sweet hello
as headlights press
the darkness like a ghost
there’s a map
inside my dresser –
silver lines against the blue
doesn’t matter
where we start
if I’m with you
my faith
is resurrected –
at the whisper of your name
a sigh of signs
and still my heart obeys
I can’t recall
the reasons
or how many roads
between
all I know is
all I need
to breathe again
the locks were never changed
to fit another
no plans for getting on
for getting by
don’t let the time it takes
be all that matters –
the sun still waits
all morning
for the night

intempt not these eyes
with lust for the river
dried to my feet
by the sand
cursed as I might
the azure blue mountains –
for trust
I was want
to withstand
a blade freshly carved
from a goldenrod meadow
bends round my finger just so
imparting a mystery
my heart
deems to wonder –
on lives polished black
by my soul
I am mist
gathered places –
the essence of longing
as breath come to blush in the spring
oceans are pining
for one more forever –
a page washed away
as I dreamed

intake me with
if you are going
somewhere closer to the sun –
where a lonely ache
for living
shall carry us
as one
a story
not yet written –
bears the memory of change
so I’ll hold your hand
for whatever truth
remains
let it keep
beyond the leaving
for all the world to see
how it was
the path remembered
as you waited time
for me

echoes beneath my skin, home, life, love, moments, remember me, sometimes, soul speak, story, time, touch, trust, truth, woman
I break
when least expected –
and rise against my will
sometimes I race
sometimes I’m standing still
I’ve known the hurt
of heartbreak
the salty sting of tears
how long the morning after
when after all these years
I still recall
without regret –
most every goodbye kiss
the whisper of remember me
to moments such as this
hearts entreating
music stirring just beneath
my skin
as melodies we played
are played again

I can’t get back there
without a map
without a plan –
I need to hear a promise
now and then
he said
the only thing I own
is the memory of more
where empty arms
wait for you
again
she said
it sounds so simple
but where am I to start
with permission just this once
for letting go
he said
I wish I had the words
I’d tell you how I feel –
there’s nothing here
but everything
you know
she said
is love forsaken –
with want for a guarantees
when all I need from you
is all you are
he said
I’ll make it easy –
and wait out on the porch
from there into my heart
is not that far

Author’s Note: Years ago, I co-wrote a piece “Conversation”. I believe
it might have won a ribbon or two. But more than that, it made me realize
the “whole other world’ that exists within two. ❤

all I know of living, another me, destiny, faith, life, living, love, memory, moments, morning, mystery, sometimes, trust, truth
in the still
that is your morning
do you drift on yesterday
as your coffee cools –
do you linger
for a while
with pieces
oft forsaken –
tho sharp the edges be
do they steal your breath
and leave you
with a smile
sometimes
my best intentions
are just reminders of the past
daylight spun to corners
in my mind
til the lure
of presence binds me –
to the place where living waits
tethered by a moment
of divine

for a little while
I waited –
watched the lane
where once you passed
kept a lantern burning
all night long
for a little while
I prayed aloud –
then drifted off to sleep
surrounded by
these memories
of home
fearless to
the morrow –
a day like all the rest
leaning to the light
where you have gone

the winter curse
has almost gone –
as lilies bend around
how soft
their tender petals
brush my toes
lies I spent a lifetime
with want for reasons why
but now the spring
a garden brings –
in color
blooms the snow
