breath, fate, history, let me, morning, remembering, seasons, stars, story, time, truth

we fell together
one night in march
when winds still warned
of an aching heart
you went home
and I pretending
of another day
we’d fall again

last night I slept
in a field of sand –
eighteen miles
of forgotten land
married you somewhere
in between
our first goodbye
and a place of dreams

you made plans
of a life beyond
the getting over –
the getting on
I sewed stars
from last night’s sleep
never worried long
for one to keep
faceless names
and ageless babies –
years between
the time we made
beneath the dark
of winter sky
another day
one more goodbye

one more hello
and a field remembers
seeds put down
one late September
for every dawn
there’s another sun
never meant to cheat
the road we’re on

faceless names
and ageless babies –
years between
the time we made
you make breakfast
and I’ll sleep in –
wrapped in stories
we fall again

destiny, expectation, fate, home, life, love, rambling, remembrance, sometimes, stars, time, treasure

left as the morning
was dried from the roses
and last night’s confession
absolved by the sun
drove just as heaven
found dirt in Kentucky
yet slowed not the heart
getting on

another night’s rest
much better than last
and nothing much here
to pretend
but I dare not regret
choices once made
or the etch of their work
on my skin

was innocence lost
in the will to believe
– blinders matched to my eyes
was destiny tied
to a white picket fence
anchored by wishes
fell from the sky

another day done
as the truth was set free
sooner or later I lost
the plan to give more
than was mine to conceive
in dreams
I can barely recall

the pillow made dark
by yesterdays’ tears
words in silence replayed
even now
as the last glimpse
of night disappears
shadows fall by the way

is it this I awaited
a long stretch of ache –
of whiskey and wishes
a favorite song
made right
in remembering
the ways we were come
as last night’s confession
absolved by the sun

whatever this –
a blessing come
to steal the pride of death
as stars aligned
ten thousand years ago
tis worth the trade of dying
to find you here anew
as proof of love –
the only thing
I know

much the same ~

closer to heaven than the stars, destiny, fate, life, light, love, memory, promise, secrets, stars, stars by name, time, truth, wishes

was once
do you remember –
a moment much the same
we tracked the stars
and answered back
their names

traded
every secret –
but for another
fate to curse
even now I can’t recall
who was first

years and
everafters –
span a life
of might have beens
places we were one –
now again

come the burn
of red horizons
met with darkest coal –
stars against the heaven
of my soul

will fate decide
the coming back
familiar though it seems
to find anew your hand in mine –
trading words for rings

how surely now
my heart is stilled
by the thought of letting go
longing wears a favored gown –
becoming all
I know

a fleeting smile
and lifetimes fade –
at the memory of your face
moments cleft from heaven
are evidence
of grace

breath, closer than the stars, destiny, eternity, fate, life, light, love, memory, presence, writing in the dark

golden dawn

from silence
came a mountain
a memory
from one touch
a lifeline
stretched the dark
to wake us up

a song
we know the words
by heart
though never knew
their taste
a breath we held –
an eternity
in trade

from the life
we might have waited
comes another
without pause –
for all we were
before we came
into the realm
of us

leftofme

with sweet regard
a warm caress
can burn a soul in two –
or purge a dream from waking –
near enough
to coming true

catastrophic
tendencies –
tho born of good intent
to make of nothing
something
more –
something more
than this

a stolen kiss
no longer missed
leaves hunger still for more –
surrendered into folly
every love
we loved before

grace

forgiveness trades
her mourning dress
for one without the lace
cotton thick as ivy
wrapped around
borrowed from a sister –
knew how much
a heart could hold
but left before
the winter came so cold
beholding to another
take my hand
I am yours

dance me to a place
of just beyond
acknowledgement of every sin
surrender to the fates –
we wrote on these
same sands
so long ago

. . .

night whispers

you could call it love
tho I might deem it something else –
an urgency shared
with an ancient moon
pressed into memory –
as evidence of fate
a need unresolved
longing so old
I’ve almost forgotten
how it feels
to be remembered

. . .

beyond this everafter ~

snowfall

what of fate
could one life master
or one card played
impress the soul
with ways beyond –
this everafter
moments spared
not long ago

curs’ed vice
of indecision
which to choose
and which to let
become the proof
of resurrection –
restoring more than life
to death
