above the night
below the dark ~
where wing’eds meet the sky
I sailed with you
(a time or two)
as whispers fluttered by

as strained to be
of mysteries
where here and there
began
to know of life
beyond this life ~
where lovers meet again

a hand to fit
around my own ~
as purpose felt before
when living past
these days shall come
and heed our cry
once more

as tender as a touch
remained
to bring me to this place
would learn anew
of love for you ~
in moments
left to grace

…

before the wind
had memory –
a mountain rose between
before the set –
we burned
beneath our skin

as messengers
of love’s refrain –
verses without answer
when promised time –
a sweeter thought
became

before the now
was come to this
we swore an oath to follow
stars into
a sacred night
revealed again our place

beyond our sleep
forever dreams
as witness to a moment –
when turned into the light
for which we came

too late
for words
to bind our soul –
sealed within the passing
of life into eternity
silently we go

loyal ~

if e’er a night
so dark as this ~
and there beyond the window
a single star
stands loyal to the deep
remembered not
the ways I came ~
or skies between to wander ~
was given this
forever ~
a promise still
I keep

for every road
was laid between
and circles round me flowing ~
til up came down
and which way home ~
the sea

a rush of dreams
when put to bed ~
grieves us on the morning
forgotten by the places
we were loved

how can the ways
be new to me ~
familiar in their telling
of constellations traced
when I was young

was there beneath
the oldest
oak ~
hiding from the heavens
I dreamed of moss
and woke before the sun

the path to us
along the rise ~
is lined with silver iris
and keeps my place
as nothing else will do

ashes rain confusion
on the map that knew
our fate ~
fortune lies
beyond the light
we know

…

by the fridge ~

of choices held long
by the reaching for time
and images pressed
to pages somewhere
stored with my heart
and a dress I once wore
when danced in the shadow
of memories made

and skated the pond
from the bed to the bath
ribbons untied
on the way ~

flickers of living
now splitting apart ~
but there in the magical
nobody said
what would come of tomorrow
or last through the night ~
held without more
to remember

ten thousand pieces
scattered about ~
edges and patterns
and gauze
how would you know
does it warm even now ~
to consider such moments
of light

forever sits still
on a shelf by the fridge ~
in a box worn by reason
and rust ~
tied with a piece
of knotted surrender ~

tho fingers sometimes
smell of dust

pages of promise
folded together ~
black mirrors blue
as proof of our rhyme
twilight spills shadows
the length of the hall

where laughter
sings sweetly the night

…

unfinished ~

the sun burned red
against the future

we beheld
a majesty of brilliant light
and whispered
our secrets to the waiting
as iridescent colors
faded
into the west

you were gone

with nimble grace
along a path
unfettered by bones
where air flows
pure

Your phone vibrates
with unanswered calls and texts…
and a picture, the only proof we were
.
Your watch, a half pack of smokes,
and an unfinished rhyme ~
things you left behind.

I gaze
into the silence

my love
resounding in
an unsung lullaby

one night ~

find me here
in closing –
just past the end of time
in sheets of silken shade
your favorite kind

find me
wrapped in ribbons
weaved into your heart ~
dream of me
and wake me
with the dark

shower me with poems
were written long before
when as a boy
you wished for me
one night

come for me
when all the rest
is emptied from your mind ~
when love
is all you have
come to me

…

a place on your pillow ~

As softly
I am remembered
to you ~
as a kiss
once your words
claimed to me ~

Found you
in everything new
I am knowing
was less than the places
made free ~

Penned to my memory
buried your sin
and died (every time)
for the love
we begin

I shall leave heaven
a place
on your pillow
and sing while you sleep ~
of waking to dreams

…

seeing in the dark ~

somebody said
I was destined for nothing ~
nothing they thought
when I came here to be
smaller than most
and telling of others ~
lives nearly gone
something living
in me

of the ways
I have wandered
dare I speak of them now
when the best I could do
would be show you
(somehow)

the patterns in chaos
in the rust ~ in the flaw
in blossoms held back
by the vine

of a hole
on the backside
of all you believe ~
a universe strung
by the weight of a dream

blessed release
to see in the dark
tho labeled as crazy
sometimes ~
howling at moons
and shifting as shadow
let loose one night
by the stars

a pathway unnoticed
by prophets and thieves
was left in the ashes
of fear and belief ~
by fortune and wishes
made one

would that I warn you
of how short
the night
mornings to tremble
when finding you gone
left to the sheets
of nothing worth keeping

~ was nothing you knew
all along

…

just the same ~

there you are
watching ~
from the face I remember
with the sun in your eyes
and tears on your smile
trying your best
not to fade at the notion
I know where you are
how you feel
(just the same)

far beyond
this supposing
of some other way
might we choose of the paths
ending here to begin ~
holding far more
than a moment (let go)
and a lifetime
of already come

would fate be decided
by the brush of a hand ~
or a breath
as a warm evening fell
floated with song
once given us word ~
to dance (even now)
on our toes

to know
as I know you ~
undone by surprise
and promised of love
without shame (or regret)
when arms reach
to hold ~ I will remember
(this way)

and eyes never cried
for me yet
