whatever life
i’ve left to owe
of graces given me –
gardens not yet seeded
in my wake
let me go
the way of winds
denied the fate of man
as longing proved
another soul
to save

let me dance
three angels deep
for moments undeserved
as lilac blooms
wherever roses grow
let me be
your secrets
a dream within your dream
as life restored –
a truth nobody
knows

. . .

caught between ~

when echoes
are the only proof
of words
we said that day –
a blush returned
with mention of your name
how many times
the pull of lines
have made for you a bed
a place where you might linger
as every note
is read

I’ve given rhyme
a bit of time –
and still
I find you there
caught between
a poem
and a prayer
a weight of verse
your touch – a place
committed to a page –
returned whene’er
I reach for you
again

. . .

the first to fold ~

abundance, forgiveness, gifts bigger than hands to hold, lessons, loss, love, poet, redemption, truth, verse

of sorrows
I have spoken –
not with tears
or sore regret
for every time the leaving left
a heart not broken yet

an ailing porch
and night pulled close
with nothing much to fear
for the sound of love
returning home –
cross miles
and men – and years

the first to fold
of every sin
begged forgiveness come
without the need for telling
would save us –
every one

came the night
by firelight –
and kept the coffee strong
til morning fell
with none to tell –
of righteousness gone wrong

as scattered verse
by prophets cursed
can’t be one to say –
what reasons came for letting go
and not a one to stay

. . .

nothing but your silence ~

had I nothing
but your silence
your warmth within the night
I’d worry not for water
deny my need for more
than your breath
where I am hungry –
words where I
have none

. . .

retreated ~

all I know, breath, grace, life, memory, nothing changes, spirit, truth

in places
you’ve forgotten
I exist as e’er I was
as a moment spared
a longing shared
life retreated
giving
nothing
in spaces
you’ve forgotten
I remember you
so well

. . .

enough to tell ~

i was never here
where anyone would see
how the sun
became my words
became my skin –
midnight was my pulse
never far
from being found
tho near enough
near enough to hear –
where a practiced word
might fall –
and I beside
who can say
where i was
when you remembered
all i was
how it felt
to lose
a memory
. . .

once the night ~

courage, heaven here, home, life, love, memory, nature, time, wandering

you are river
and I the mountains –
carved a place
of silk and stone
memory
of rain and ocean
miles behind –
forever home

as one way back
and one way forward –
pristine valleys
canyons deep
as once the night
have you forgotten –
we bound a star
this wish to keep

you are forest
and I the meadow
wrapped in summer
tho winter lies
beneath our feet –
it snows a river
oceans melt
to fill the sky

. . .

remembrance ~

a hand to hold, abundance, grace, living a better story, love, moments, mystery, time, truth, writing in the dark

from the edges
I’m reminded –
the many ways
of love –
of wordless joy
you never told me why
the heart has
no remembrance –
the ease of letting go
of moments
stretched
the length of time –
this evermore
to hold

. . .

falling ~

all I really know, allowance, dancing, destinies, falling, love, returning home, story, truth

adrift
trading stories
of this we dared
one chance
to live
forward
back
forgotten to our shoes
falling
breath seeking
breath
a memory
of us –
music
no one else
could play

. . .

only us ~

dare I imagine
only us
an endless stretch
of blue –
oceans clear
as rivers rise
emptied of their truth
forests cloaked
in silence
as proof of all
we’ve done
ten thousand lifetimes
ended for the one

. . .

I often imagine a future me (another life) beyond the one I touch. I grieve for her – for a beauty she will only know by remembering this life….a breath she will not know to miss.
