had we nothing
save these mortal pains
days without restraint
had we much
or something more
than diamonds held
stars beyond the gate
hands to fit
in places dark
eyes to light
the deep
were something less
worth coming for
i think not
now we see
the sky
recalls each moment –
portals to the past
as blue made dreams
remember –
we fell
as wishes cast

sometimes
i remember –
the ways we were then
and nights
i dare not to speak
of them now
pages discovered
sometimes while i dream
you are there
in the soft
silver grey
of the dawn

sometimes
i forget –
the day you were gone
with only your scent
to remind me
of home
with only a fleeting
breath i might catch
left to the light
by the storm

sometimes
i remember

remembered this
from somewhere
once before
longer still
my ache when shadows
warm the place
i am
a fragrant kiss
foretelling
of the ways i’d come to hate
nights to pass the miles
from sleep to dream
gathered up
in trinkets –
nurtured by my lust –
cursing of
another time
was nothing left
of us
save for these
reminders
we were here
and i was home –
lifetimes tracing echoes
of me now

twilight falls soft
in shades of remember
charcoal and pitch
as the day
i was born
drifted a ways
with nothing to tether
silences sweet
as a breath
wrapped around
was destiny left
in the arms of a stranger
a night you lay claim
some other to prove
blind to the danger
grievance
in falling ~
unaware of the journey
stars burning
through
gathering moondust
pools on the pasture
shimmering drops
of promise divine
cured of the heartbreak
heaven returning
to save what was waited ~
this moment
to find

how many
the maps i’ve forgotten
to save
memory clings to my skin
jealousy burned
with longing forsaken –
a time just beyond
my leaving again
did you know
i was going –
did your heart
miss a beat
at the sight of my
dreams lying cold
on your bed
boots worn
soft by your tears
do you remember
the sunday
you spoke of regret
of ways i would come
to find you
were gone
of paths you neglected
one saturday woke
to find our desires
were no longer
the same
