i wasn’t meant
for waiting –
another sun
some other life
never raced ahead
to find the end
where I began
tis all for me
this mystery
of now
and here we are
floating on an
ancient emerald sea
touching
barely touching
your voice above the tide
fingers tangled
warmth around my own
whispers of direction
as rivers
you are come
back to this –
sweet memory
all I know
of home
. . .

faith, home, life, love, memory, remembrance, returning to a home we never left, time, trust
before I was come
were you but a memory
of a place where we lay
one with the night
pressed with a promise
to evergreen needles
preparing our hearts
a moment to rise
before I was grace
I was want for no more
than the sound
of your breathing
the warmth of your face
skin robbing skin
of all that was mattered
lips barely touching
fearful of flame
before I was nothing
who were you wanting
when back through
the madness –
you wandered so far
to dream
our beginning
from a whispered confession
a prayerful
remember
forgiving
us now
before I was come
were you but a memory
. . .
26 Thursday May 2022
of lessons
I heard about –
fates to convene
a place I was born
with another
to grieve
how it was
I remember
sometimes like a dream
barns beaten down
by the winters
moments like this
survivors to death
I knew
as I know
when you kissed me
how sweetly you fit
with some other I was
names without
places
we loved
. . .
24 Tuesday May 2022
as the last
constellation
brushed into light
planets not yet given
to name
as weeds tangled over
barbs of our past
I want you
to love me
that way
as a three quarter moon
oceans obey
souls coming back
for a kiss
as the memory of sparrows
sailing to home –
I need you
to love me
like this
like a wild
tameless river
carving canyons
to the sea
with reckless abandon –
love me
. . .
20 Friday May 2022
tell me
where your words
have gone
where the key
is kept
will truth
be ours to scatter
o’er lifetimes
we have left
will time
resort to flying
will your heart
find rest with mine
will words
be lost in how it was
to break
were my faith
a consequence –
of a promised
one more verse
where time is stilled
with every sigh
remembered
tell me
where your words
have gone –
where the key
is kept
. . .
18 Wednesday May 2022
lest that you
remember –
how it was
here in my arms
poetry spilled over
from the past
gleaming like a river
slicing through the pines
choose
as you were choosing
let or beg me stay
fill my cup
with everything you lack
were that
circumstance
be all I ever asked
a place to fall
kinder hurts to grieve
when every vow is spoken
will you believe me
then –
how I came for you
evidence
surviving –
as distant was the life
we chose to leave
. . .

i have waited
for the season
you might reach for me
this way
when the snow has melted
and every fate
resigned
would that you remember
marigold and blush
of kisses sure
to bind your soul
with mine
i have waited
near the shadows –
pressed my heart
against the stars
casting out my prayers
to destiny
tempted to retreating
cotton wrapped around
touch
wherever touch
is sworn
to be
