by home another way, life, love, redemption, salvation, saved, truth

had the storm
avoided sundays
like I had
most all my life
wading somewhere
out beyond the light
dirty hands
a knowing smile
saved me time
and time again –
before
the rain came down
before my last
amen

. . .

of everything ~

all I really know, in this now, life, love, redemption, surrender, trust, truth

had i more of verse
than consequence
an offer
much refined
more than just
one kiss
another me

was waiting
recognition –
in the shadow
of a smile
a lifetime resurrected
by will
of destinies

had i more to gift
– of everything
these arms could ever hold
fortunes
spent before
you came
for me

the first to fold ~

abundance, forgiveness, gifts bigger than hands to hold, lessons, loss, love, poet, redemption, truth, verse

of sorrows
I have spoken –
not with tears
or sore regret
for every time the leaving left
a heart not broken yet

an ailing porch
and night pulled close
with nothing much to fear
for the sound of love
returning home –
cross miles
and men – and years

the first to fold
of every sin
begged forgiveness come
without the need for telling
would save us –
every one

came the night
by firelight –
and kept the coffee strong
til morning fell
with none to tell –
of righteousness gone wrong

as scattered verse
by prophets cursed
can’t be one to say –
what reasons came for letting go
and not a one to stay

fault lines ~

forgiveness, life, love, memory, redemption, tears, time, trust, truth, weakness, writing in the dark

how is it
you can break my heart
and before I chance to mend
you come around
to break my heart again

you’ve memorized my
fault lines
with weapons still the same –
your eyes meet mine
and then you speak
my name

I’ve forgotten
how it was to heal
don’t care to ever know
the ease of loss
is nothing
if I never see you go

I’ll move the bed
to face the dawn –
I’ll rearrange the room
further from your leaving –
hidden to the moon

. . .

the way love works ~

life, love, patience, promise, redemption, reminders why we came, time, truth

was never my intent
to carry all this grief –
to bend beneath the load
of circumstance
hastened by the notion
my heart would never mend
would squander
every breath –
if given chance

such foolishness
I should have seen –
surely learned by now
the way love is
the way love works
to give
as we allow

but I won’t lie
I can’t pretend
there hasn’t been some pain –
learning as it were
to live again

haunted by a promise
whispered long ago
within the dark
an ember of the sun
is wrapped in sweet reminders
lest my soul forget
beyond this night –
another day will come

. . .

age, blessing, closer still, courage, forgiveness, grace, life, love, redemption, still, surrender, time, where you are

when I’ve taken the last
of faith that was given
and turned my back
to the wall –
to wonder how long
this grace
might deliver
when broken each vow
my heart can recall

when I’ve lost
what had saved me –
words where pages lie still
a map once was traced
to the sands of my soul
lest I wander
without want
to be filled

dare me remember
the ways I was carried
and nights I sought peace
in the dark
move me to center
align me with light –
so that grace
seeks to find me
no matter how far

professing love for me_edited

what of words
one blessing fails –
a choir can hardly sing
to tell of grace
in all I’ve known –
a loving solstice
brings

as voices blend
in whispering –
the ransom of my will
to a season saved for mary
candles reaching –
higher still

red and virgin
blossoms bleed
beneath an old and crooked tree
verses of ten thousand psalms
– professing love
for me

I wonder
though not so often
how sweetly the path was grown
another way
from all I dreamed –
returns my soul
to home

. . .

of everything and nothing ~

coming back, courage, faith, leaning in, life, love, memory, redemption, spirit, truth, without fear

Willmeremember

how many turns
the coming back –
to love beyond my reach
beyond my name –

the memory of home

silence swells
in reason –
whispers ease me now
remembering a ways
I came alone

a passing on
of everything
in nothing I have said –
stories bear me empty
to the throne

. . .

one more place ~

beyond

beyond the dusk
where dying sleeps –
and promise lives unspoken
love remains
though silent now its verse
cold upon the lips of faith
wrapped in weary hands
chiseled to the stone
wherein we pray
for one more place
beginning
another time to grieve
the passing of a moment
into grace

somewhere storming

hope was born on a windy day
at two p.m.
your sudden smile
illuminated the fog
of my ailing soul
heartache was an ever darkening bruise
that starlight could never heal…
your words still try to work miracles
but you disappear as often
as moonlight on a stormy night
and through the ebb and tide of my need
you ride the waves of my salvation
like a pirate
caught between lust for rich horizons
and a part-time philosopher
in love with ideals

. . .
