something matters more

tiny pearls
were wishes made
one night before the summer
was rained upon
the meadow –
let me in
whispering a story
lived I not for long
chances took
and I am here
again

silent
spools the ruby red
feathers to the limb
while just a bit
aways
the blue
becomes
resolved to something
bigger
floating to the ground
swept beneath
the sleeping winter
dawn

. . .

came and went ~

here

when emptied
let me understand
tis there
my fullness lies
the whole of all creation
– but a sigh

echoed into
weariness
more and more –
til less
the bowl is waiting
silent
on the shelf

holding heart
with memories
where overflowing
spent
to change the ways –
the river
came and went

to seek
beyond the seeing
how dear
this emptiness
– will softer hands
confine my
thankfulness

for what shall be
another sure –
tis something more
divine
than what was left
of nothing –
remains for us
to find

pirate

whate’er has gone
will find again –
morning
twilight
leaning in
across the ways
beneath the floor
were heavens
once I held
before

as now I see
the truth become
with want for I –
the only one
to know of words
– a bitter
taste
life is best
with none to waste

as once we knew
another now
where wishes fell
and kisses lay
sweet the breath
of almost none
would love
be missed
we gave away

might presence steal
the shadows grey
as sun across
our yesterdays
hold me here
touch me yet –
recalled
to ways
I’ll not forget

. . .

the ways of remember ~

hereandthen

carry me now
the ways of remember –
a silver white light
laid soft
on the dawn
awaking in time
the once held suspicion
love lingers still
in places
unknown

to walk
near the graves
of the last without name
thirty five more
past the broken down gate
to surrender
my keeping
of moments so fair
as paths through
the silence
– to wake
with you there

in the still
born of letting –
words
into smoke
how far from the sleeping
steps turn to stone
were garnered
of moments –
I hold yet their truth
in dreams
of becoming –
to carry me
home

. . .

snowglobe moments ~

o_the_sweet

of dreams –
the start of many
mary falls around
til quiet fills
the waiting coffee cup
numbered –
our beginnings
bless’ed every one
breathed between
the want
and ne’er enough

bested by my knowing
sleep may never save
legions undefeated
by my name
startled by
my restlessness
guard to sorrows deep –
embers cool
and there
a sweeter flame

a ways become
of turning home –
moments unconfessed
are left within
a season’s letting go
fragile now
the pieces
carried by my heart –
breath against the windows
of my soul

crossed I once
an empty field
before the evening
blue
– worried not
for where the path
might lead

would restless
bring me home to find another
captive as a wing
within my wish

trace me not
from memory
of this (to come again) –
from where I was
returned
when prayers were said

before the night
was pulled to shade
a whisper ceased
to matter –
yellow held her hands
above the flame

where black
the spinner
cursed the taste
of silk

shadows shift
beneath the grey
wherein the light
was less
than I could pass
remembering
to see

. . .

pause ~

softerme (2)

winter weaves
a woolen blanket
threat beneath
the snow
warm the thought
of kisses
falling down
tender as
the willing
to remember
days gone by –
and there our purpose
waits
without a sound

preyed upon
prayed apart –
whispers read aloud
tho no one knows
the way of mine
for long
brushed against
convention –
waited thru the night
held you here
as rhyme against
my song

. . .

twinkle now ~

will you know

glistening
these tender boughs
and there the lights
so bright
as wishes fell
from stars beyond
the night

as dreams
reclaimed
by drifting snow
shimmer calms the bride
with memory
of love –
a softer tide

gathered us together
round the tree
to wait
e’er death be passed
beneath the watch
of fate

twinkle now
remember me –
a wish made once before
a present wrapped
in light outside
your door

. . .

back again ~

would for the worst
the rest betray –
the coming back
to wander
would trade for none
the imprint won
by promise torn assunder

reborn again
a lifetime more –
and cast them out
as vile
removed the burden
judgement made
for every firm denial

a dime or so
would three or four
be wealth to one of these
or kindness fit
as words so soft –
each sorrow to release

into this lowly circle
was drawn for us
in time –
forgotten not the reasons
– every coming back
to find

the one to wait
with arms held wide –
eyes are blazing bright
remembered for
another day
beyond this chance
delight

were not for them
or for the clouds
who passed
the way with you –
were angels watching ever
come to know the world
you knew

. . .

seventeen ~

surelyme

sworn to none
the letting go
some piece of seventeen
forty more and there
the coming back
to catch us up
with sweet surprise
familiar as our own

– as all I know
of places that I don’t

feather covers
tiny blooms
and all I ask – another
sunrise come
and I within the toast
of one more willing
bring me back
voices I remember
becoming this –
a song
beneath my bones

ancient glow
of amber fits
settled on the porch
close enough to mars
and he – my sin
forgiven when the morning
spreads our truth
around

wrapped unto
and warmed against
my fall

miles
and still unknown
the ways
october passed
melting into now
snow on skin –

as somewhere
I have noticed
comes without invite –
crossing into dreams
of seventeen
