grace, life, love, passion, starring in your dreams, stars, stay

were I the place
to lay you down –
a valley lush with lace
as quietly a moment
became a cry for grace –
stars for watching over
let me linger
let me stay
tangled in your wilderness
a captive to your pleas
breath without
remembrance –
a fragile destiny

were I the place
to lay you down

when the wolf
is come
for answers
growling at my door
returned to find
his favored bowl is clean
i shall whisper
to his madness
make sense of every need
i shall sing
into the sorrow
of his want
when come for me

i remember well
the way it felt
returning back to home
to find the weeds
grown up
the cupboards bare
i remember tears
can taste them now
how sweet their recompense
for losses
far too many
to repair

. . .

had I one more day
a lifetime more to love –
another first
with nothing lost
a place to start again
whispers of I love you
shadows pressed to light
a sigh to span
eternity
as once anew
begin

these arms
resist the morning
when daylight breaks anew –
attempts to hold
what can’t be held –
a flame that burns
clear through
the haunted taste of promise
still lingers on these lips –
a plea surrendered
softly –
as the moon
became a kiss
evidence I waited
and all I dared concede –
drifting at the edges
dreams –
won’t let me be
these hands
are stiff with longing
for paradise they know
passage given
let me in –
a torture letting go

yesterdays gone

within this meager soul
a fire –
as proof of trials I’ve known
a life denied to living
– is mine alone

how many
still are waiting
the turn when I shall see –
a love
by loves forsaken
carries me

. . .

catch me ~

one more time
one more season –
let the blossoms fall as may
marigold and budding jasper
soltice from
a world away

as before
a certain wisdom
comes without regard
and still –
all that was
remains unbroken –
all our passions
given will

touch recalled
as were no passing
into love –
where life remains
unto fields of winter clover
miles we wander
home again

catch me now
the lover leaning
into life –
a fated charm
convince my heart
to match your beating –
as gathered soft
to waiting arms

restless

windowtomyheart

Of all the things we carry with us, home is perhaps the lightest.

Every year or so, I find reason to be in the area where my grandparents lived for most of my life. Each time, my initial response is the same ‘who moved the house closer to the road?’

In my memory, the yard was huge, as was the orchard and the pond. It was surely a day’s walk to my grandpa’s store (rather than the quarter mile it is now). And how could such a little house and little porch hold so many people, so much love?

In the confines of my heart, the roof pushes against my breastbone and apples fall to the safety of little hands.

We may move, and we may know the feel of many floors beneath our naked feet……..but always, there is something greater we carry with us. We may wander, but we never really leave.

*sigh*

there’s no sign
to point the way
no wear upon the road
but I’d swear
the air is cleaner
in this place

beyond the want
for getting back –
someone waits me now
denied the fault
for leaving –
opened arms of grace

memories

as the essence
of remember
floating golden thru the trees –
fingers reach beyond
the midday sun
fumbling with moments
love forgot to say –
sunlight swirls
in feeling just begun

silence wraps
the weary heart –
promise wears us down
with memory of places
yet to be
quiet proves a slow refrain
of stories never told –
verses fall
into the years
between

musings o’er the reasons
and wondering
the pause –
what of life and where
the leaves are blown
swept on dreams repented
by the way we hold the words
bittersweet –
the flight of love
unknown

silencewing

lest I awaken
mourning dove above my head
whispered into sorrow
by his song
will all I have
a pittance make
compared unto his loss
a place alone
where silence beats the same

sworn to birth
some other time –
before the sky burned black
was here
the reasons scattered us apart
folded as a memory
into the great unknown –
while fortune sleeps
beside us
in the dark

follow your soul

time has erased the
girl in the mirror –
a clarified version
of someone I knew
stares from the corners
leans to the shutter
breaks in the passing
and smiles as I do

at stories forgotten
retold from the ending
tracing old patterns
nobody cares
how we became
for what were we searching –
a touch this familiar
waiting love –
waiting there

miles down the mountain
living aside –
essence remains of
some sweet other time
a faded reminder
of me in the mirror
but for passions
we shared –
love
would be mine
