last i remember
the stars had no names
and a wild endless blue
was your name
on my lips
surrender made do
with the past
it is gone
like a wave built of clouds
where our dreams
linger on
forty
and something more wondrous
than this
than years folded soft
on the night
last i was taken
you found me somehow
out past the waves
where stars
are allowed
pointed
and endless
cradled by blue
– fate
rearranged
by your hands

these arms
resist the morning
when daylight breaks anew –
attempts to hold
what can’t be held –
a flame that burns
clear through
the haunted taste of promise
still lingers on these lips –
a plea surrendered
softly –
as the moon
became a kiss
evidence I waited
and all I dared concede –
drifting at the edges
dreams –
won’t let me be
these hands
are stiff with longing
for paradise they know
passage given
let me in –
a torture letting go

from slumber
I am taken –
lest my dreams
return for me
lest my covers ache
the essence
of my sin
when the moon is perched
along the southern eve
let him weep
let him find me distant
find me gone
succumb to all was
missing –
surrendered not to fate
one more day
I dare not spend it now
steal me from
the cool embrace
of sheets just off the line
shatter my
allegiance
to the night

I have bartered
with the darkness –
wrapped myself in light
courting with shadows
– rolled beyond the hands
of night

I have loved
when there was nothing
worth surrender
to confess –
finding strength
to face another
calm to ease
my soul’s unrest

found a means
for moving onward
in search of destiny –
I have loved
and hesitated
for a truth
I couldn’t see

without remorse
for having wanted –
I was never far from home
I have waded
in the waters
cold and dark –
a lover’s stone

yesterday
I wrote your name
in shades of winter blue
curled against the margin
of a page
evening come
to claim my days –
but worried not the heart
and more than once
the ink was pressed –
to wonder
why you came

a question
left unanswered –
as dreaming fell to night
mesmerized by places
lifetimes gone
stars I know
they sparkle there –
brush the same dark sky
flickers falling
all these miles
from home

if ever
for my words you ache
just listen for the night –
the steady drum
of stars succumb
to heaven chasing light
the cry of crickets
fiddles ring
as shadows round are cast
cedar boughs
forgiven now –
are kneeling on the grass
the stir of
night birds waking
to find another song
things I might have told you
– they will hold you
when I’m gone

beyondtime

what words
need understanding –
but a place to fall
one day
beyond the seeker seeking
our dismay
another time
forgotten us –
some meaning just beyond
the dreamer dreamed
and all that was
become

a summer night
a star just so
and planted black
as diamond
how many wishes
raised
before his fell
dust is left
to willing hands
pressed against the light
to trace the trail
of wishes
cross the night
