I went looking
for the verses
before they searched
for me –
miles beneath
a canopy of stars
pushed along
when everything was
telling me to go
sometimes the morning came
and I was gone
I’ve watched
the way unravel
and stitched it back
in place
told myself some lies
to get me on
etched a map of evermore
and covered it
with skin
sold myself
sold the world
for one more time
begin
I’m not so young
as I was then
save for memories
traded on a future –
none could own
none could see
as poems prayed –
eyes were closed
to everything but us
I felt my heart the most
within your love

whatever was
so misconstrued
how was I to ever
hang my heart on magic –
endear my trust to lies
whatever loss
might I confess
to moments
so enduring –
as those who came
who left without goodbye

should history
remember me
to something less
romantic –
a purple bruise
beneath a jaded sky
scripted as
a sleepless night –
burdened by my longing
with memories
of memory –
and ne’er a tear
to cry

nearme

I remember
distant summers
by the creek
beyond the fence
I loved
the feel of falling –
the crush of stars
against my skin

some nights
the eastern sky
comes aflame with strange
blue light
yet so clear
as though a river
took to flying

one more time
one more season –
let the blossoms fall as may
marigold and budding jasper
soltice from
a world away

as before
a certain wisdom
comes without regard
and still –
all that was
remains unbroken –
all our passions
given will

touch recalled
as were no passing
into love –
where life remains
unto fields of winter clover
miles we wander
home again

catch me now
the lover leaning
into life –
a fated charm
convince my heart
to match your beating –
as gathered soft
to waiting arms

restless

where now
this place
of wandering
paths already worn
where clouds
are falling –
stardust paints the ground

leaves
ten thousand colors
swirling white against the sun
dancing fire –
reflection of
the soul

fingerprints
are scattered here
evidence of truth –
where memories of dawn
return to dream

he spoke
of worlds
she wandered through
but never dared admit
to knowing more
than just her way around

to listen
lest the madness come
to steal this fire away
what wish
could e’er replace
his favored star

was given name
one frigid night
when wrapped again
they dreamed
of faraways
ten thousand more
tho ne’er a one remained
as breath beyond the window
light upon the snow

mysteries remembered
to a kiss

where questions spilled
unanswered
in wait for evermore
a night when he
might carry her to home

shroud in ancient
story
of some other
yesterday
he found her there
within a wish
he made

touch

winter pulls
against my boots
(carry me away)
to plant my dreams
where now the wheat
turns grey
smoke
above an evening (rest)
lives I must have known
are gathered sweet
memories (to stone)
a verse
or two –
(remains of sins)
nurtured by the spring
ashes fall
(snowflakes) whispering

I am still

from the first
a stillness fluttered
as fingertips to voice –
as dragonflies
above a yellow flame
a kiss
of souls remembered –
as breath
a moment lost
– time conceded nothing
but a sigh
wanting not for more
but only this

. . .

these fields ~

rolledintome

these fields
have been my saving grace
how long
from waking stirred
to blur the lacey edges
come of sleep
will carry me
a lifetime more
than crystal stems
and longing
beyond the velvet echoes
of goodbye

given me direction
with
one more
purple dawn –
peepers crowd beneath
the rafters now
warm the line
between the road
and where it was I knew
you’d find me here
with every want
made true

shadows
to an outstretched hand
spirit held by name –
as somewhere soft
this once
you fell into
the wonder
of awaking –
as a dream
beyond the night

as answer to a wish
made long ago
