as easy as breathing, christmas, confession, life, live, poetry, rambling, sometimes, writing in the dark

was making plans
for one more life
when you found me
spun me round
like a rainbow
falling
drunken path
flooding the pasture
burning my skin
with the way
you looked thru
the way you made love
feel like
always
was nothing
we’d ever want back
a breath for christmas
one more every time
i would awake
in a trance
of learning to be
tho i couldn’t quite
count
the stars
i could drown in your eyes
a life resurrected
as you held out
your hands –
opened your arms
to surround

. . .

all there was ~

just so, life, love, morningpages, rambling, story, what a poet knows, writing in the dark

when comes the day
might be the last
of all the times between
wherever stars align
as fate revealed
when mellow
seems to be
the only way I know
to be…
when lonely wakes
to find the bed
is gone

when every plate is broken
and all my pages
bare
when light
that filled the porch
has worn away
to meld again with shadow
of a time before I knew
a day beyond our last
would come
to claim the rest
of you

. . .

grace, introspection, life, loss, love, nature, rambling, reflection, sometimes, still, that thing I do, time

of riches
I have nothing
but the memory of love
gathered close as breath
near as touch

the soul remembers
lest I faint
was lost
tho I am not
faith has kept me
tethered to the trees

drifting
on an evening gale
life restored
as choice to be
held within a promise –
a seeker sure to see

the world is changing
as am I
as e’er were we
to start
racing toward forever
not a breath apart

as certain grace
a holy place
reserved
of none I own
a tender prayer
is whispered there
faraway
is here
and I can’t tell the difference
between love
and letting go

let the truth
in living
fold around
the memory of where
I’ll be
some wiser sun
will pull me from the branches
trailing winds
where once
I was set free

destiny, expectation, fate, home, life, love, rambling, remembrance, sometimes, stars, time, treasure

left as the morning
was dried from the roses
and last night’s confession
absolved by the sun
drove just as heaven
found dirt in Kentucky
yet slowed not the heart
getting on

another night’s rest
much better than last
and nothing much here
to pretend
but I dare not regret
choices once made
or the etch of their work
on my skin

was innocence lost
in the will to believe
– blinders matched to my eyes
was destiny tied
to a white picket fence
anchored by wishes
fell from the sky

another day done
as the truth was set free
sooner or later I lost
the plan to give more
than was mine to conceive
in dreams
I can barely recall

the pillow made dark
by yesterdays’ tears
words in silence replayed
even now
as the last glimpse
of night disappears
shadows fall by the way

is it this I awaited
a long stretch of ache –
of whiskey and wishes
a favorite song
made right
in remembering
the ways we were come
as last night’s confession
absolved by the sun

. . .

longing

so much of me
some you don’t know
– poems I have written
on my soul
I can’t tell you
I won’t tell you
how it is
I’ve surrendered you
remembered you
another day –
again

so much
and who am I
to remind you what is real
of moments come
this destiny to steal
wait for me
at twilight
out beyond the fence
I will show you then
how I love

look for me here_edited

would that you knew me
one night on the run –
out past the place fences
were strung
out past the memory
of all we’ve become –
tis a place
you knew me this way

as light
through a bonnet of cedar
and vine –
beckoning planets
the color of jade
bound us together
beyond what was lost –
tears fell a river
of rain

ribbons and lace
the burden of grace –
cigarettes burned down
the barn
dare my assumption
for all I held dear –
as near to my heart
once the stars

. . .

another me, emily, life, longing, love, magic, memory, mystery, rambling, romance, sometimes, time, wonder, writing in the dark

Medicine-Woman-Seeking-Solitude-1915-courtesy-Library-of-Congress

whatever was
so misconstrued
how was I to ever
hang my heart on magic –
endear my trust to lies
whatever loss
might I confess
to moments
so enduring –
as those who came
who left without goodbye

should history
remember me
to something less
romantic –
a purple bruise
beneath a jaded sky
scripted as
a sleepless night –
burdened by my longing
with memories
of memory –
and ne’er a tear
to cry

some things
not meant for keeping –
not meant for talking
through the night
don’t waste my time
with dreams
nobody dreams
or tell me of a someday
we might meet –
we might not
find the way as willing
as we are

honor, it's what I do, life, love, pages, purpose, rambling, stars, story, submission, time, truth, wonder

saved me

what mirror mine
as daylight breaks
with pencils
once I wrote the sky
forgiving of a moment
I was lost
I was freed –
of ink I never thought
to care
assurance never mine
a stronger hand
than e’er
I thought to lead

pages
lined with story
let them change
as I have changed –
retelling of the past
another me
somewhere
this remembrance
though not for fate
to let
papers split the light
as falling
leaves

. . .

I am forever grateful that my life be told with pencil rather than pen, with moments still undecided by the stars.

centerhill_nov18

as once I knew
this time would be
as years too short
would circle round
from days
tho long
no longer count
I wonder still
what I shall miss
when words o mine
for none exist

for one more april
shower sweet
another warm july
will tears befall
when leaving comes
for one more this
the rest undone
as lips grown silent
wait again
the taste of wine –
of summer sun

warming verse
upon my brow
love
where love began
what future place
awaits me now
each dream –
a time
by time displaced
for one more
one more everything
another life
by moments held
somewhere filled
by years the same
as these

I feel are passing
a fleeting bliss
how much of all
I love will miss
the warmest tide
against my feet
a blanket spread
of stars

a hand
so certain
thread with mine
another dream
some other
time
