steal from me
this willing heart
with nothing but your sigh –
touch i kept
one sunday afternoon
we talked about
forever –
another life forgave
held your hand
and counted back the ways
remember how it is
how it feels
to understand
some paths are come
to show us
what is real –
plagued by time
tangled in a memory
of flame
remember how it was
to lean into
an easy trust –
a breath to find redemption
in a name

destiny, I don't like roses;nature, life, love, mystery, spirit, wild, wilderness, woman
she wasn’t meant
for roses
no ordinary bloom
could spare the vine
so intertwined
with wild and wanting
roots
sometimes a weed
of twisted lace
is all she desires to be
a rare bouquet
of everything –
a garden growing free
beyond the need
for crimson
ruby reds and pinks
a shade of honeysuckle
seldom bleeds
she wasn’t meant
for roses
edges so defined
a mystery –
of tangled leaf
by love
left unconfined

are there lines
across your heart
where once I lay me down
a memory of warmth
against your skin
I was here
just the same
to return most every night
when red is fallen
soft along the ridge
are there pieces
still to missing –
I have wondered now
again
down the roads
ten thousand miles
afraid
were I to call
would you hear me
sweeter than before –
a crush
of velvet wings
amidst the trees
. . .
26 Saturday Mar 2022
how much of you
a part of me –
sands atop
the floor
as blossoms
where the trees have
burned away
how much of verse
is nothing more
than once
you were
and I
was counted back
in syllables
emptied to a page
folded to
a memory
the lineage of truth
someone said
tho I’ll be damned
if I remember why
the road
was less
the day you left
the sun no longer shines
to fill between
the whispers
rusted oak and flesh
how much I have
surrendered
was your breath
becoming mine
. . .

a walk in the woods, cedar grove, celebration of love, empty graves, life, love, my way back to you, mystery
how sweet
the edges blur –
where will has congregated
where some other me
a younger me
worries for the touch
would resurrect
a universe –
recreate a flame
where stars align
tho not yet given name
the warm embrace
of destinies
remains within my dreams
springs where blossoms
weave their way
to mine

inwhen bells
are nearly broken
tho chords
are hanging still
when the choir
folds together
with their silks
when hymns are dashed
as silence earned
banging on
our knees
sore and bruised
the busted
falling down
when truth
we swore would save us
becomes the last
we seek
as walls to spy
flame is all
we breathe
curses pulled
around us
pleas for something
more
to ease the ache
of missing –
to find
what we came for
. . .
Author’s Note: Sometimes there is no image worthy of the words. Sometimes, I fall willingly.

had I more
than stars for wishing
years of standing still
the memory
of falling to the sea
where I slept
within a sunrise
as ten thousand came before
swimming in your eyes
rescue me
had I will
to run or follow –
a step or two behind
beyond the pull
of destiny or sky
tempted by a promise
truth would see me home
lest I wander with
this mystery
called life
had I courage
for surrender –
death to stave again
carried up as leaves
to lay me down
had I faith
to live another life
were this my only plea
come to me
with arms
to wrap around
. . .

pressed
into the pages
here my story lies
a sacred bloom
once crimson
sweet perfume
I close my eyes
and once again
rest beneath the boughs
spied upon
by eyes in search
of mine
melody of nature
music of the trees
ancients raise
a silver canopy
to catch the light
surrendered
by ten thousand
dreamed before
spirits I have spoken
here my heart
a blossom as a kiss
resolved –
as dear my own to taste
the fragile scent
of memory
remains

beauty, closer now to heaven than the stars, death, faith, fear, freedom, life, mystery, nature, release, sorrow, truth
had time
herself delayed
for to listen as my love
what freedoms come
to swallow up your fears
release as I
once promised
wings returned to flight
a dark
beyond the search
of constellations
wishes falling round
denied a place
to keep
ashes white with snow
adorn the path
had time delayed
forever –
one minute more
for me
wherever now my wings
are sworn to reach
