words are offered
unyielding –
scrapped from pages
divine tho they be
moments
split open
and scattered
are gift to the soul
with comfort to seek
verses and
poetry
rhyme sometimes raw
as blood turned
to ink
by the page
by the fall
who will remember
how it was then
we wrote
without thinking
without feeling
at all
what was meant
unintended
as a line spoke aloud
as truth
we were hoping to breathe
who shall give voice
to some other
we were –
poetry left the heart
to receive

when bells
are nearly broken
tho chords
are hanging still
when the choir
folds together
with their silks
when hymns are dashed
as silence earned
banging on
our knees
sore and bruised
the busted
falling down
when truth
we swore would save us
becomes the last
we seek
as walls to spy
flame is all
we breathe
curses pulled
around us
pleas for something
more
to ease the ache
of missing –
to find
what we came for

. . .

Author’s Note:  Sometimes there is no image worthy of the words.  Sometimes, I fall willingly.

as mornings
where the light is come
to spill across
my bed
faded cotton folded
holy praise

here the boards
are broken
tho one shall know
my steps –
a dance recalled to
memory that way

slanted doors
and rusted hinges
still I pull
you in
pressed against my ache
yesterday

of chances
I’ve forgotten
where I left my heart
who the stars
remember
to obey

of sorrows
I have spoken –
not with tears
or sore regret
for every time the leaving left
a heart not broken yet

an ailing porch
and night pulled close
with nothing much to fear
for the sound of love
returning home –
cross miles
and men – and years

the first to fold
of every sin
begged forgiveness come
without the need for telling
would save us –
every one

came the night
by firelight –
and kept the coffee strong
til morning fell
with none to tell –
of righteousness gone wrong

as scattered verse
by prophets cursed
can’t be one to say –
what reasons came for letting go
and not a one to stay

there’s an hurt
beneath my spine
a tiny spot of grief
a shadow of remorse to most unseen
curves against my leaving
til I can barely stand –
a part of you
I’ve not the heart to glean

was there a time
decided –
a lot I chose to take
a card misplayed
lines from north to south
written to the margins
there for all to see
how I love
and how I live without

folded into verses
wherever ink is spilled
my will is bent
all my fingers ache
bruises indigo
are evidence of truth
ego sleeps –
tho my heart
is wide awake

always we begin, and still, belonging to none, grace, life, longing, love, poet, story, time, verse, writing

another sun
will I remember
the weight of words
beneath my bed –
empty pages
grieve the story
verses trapped inside
my head

passions rise
to ink stained fingers
memory met
with practiced hand –
seasons fill
my pen with longing
for life I’m want
to understand

truth is cleft
as will surrendered
stored to cold
my pillow waits –
another time
a chance for taking
as heart to hand
– this silence
aches

whereIamyou

I have not
permission –
this breath to allow
visions
how sweetly
they come to me now

when I had
forgotten
the warmth of your hands
– the touch
of your fingers
to mine

pages and pages
scattered by rhyme –
letters like leaves
falling down

love resurrected
from indigo blood –
thought
seldom spoken
aloud

breath (2)

it seems
as I’ve forgotten
the hurting side of me
bent in place
a damn disgrace
now a mystery
folded into shadow
and pressed against the boards
a whole lot more than memory
was trapped
beneath that door
so hurry now
the day is waning
and feathers chase the night
dragons cry
a liquid sky –
of whispers bearing light

(as tender fall
our wishes all around)

sundayme

when birth became
another time
a parting from the whole –
slant as I from dying
with fissures
to my soul
remembering
another time –
and words I gave for free
another life
was mine to love –
was once
another me

where verses carved
into my heart –
rhyme I scarcely used
love endured
the taking back
another day of you
pages fret forgotten lines
ink – I’m bound to grieve
for moments folded
into life –
truths I willed
believe

dreamed in verse

last night
I dreamed in verses
pages as my skin
and you
an ancient desk
upon the porch
looking out on summer
where every breath is slowed –
lines were caught
and whispered
to the dark
