chisel me
forever
set your name with mine
beneath an evening
spread
of ancient pines
beneath a sky
of almost black –
wings against the dark
whispers of remember
– fathers
taking flight

carve me
into maple –
my soul to golden oak
swear me not a page
where i might stay
counter to a memory
how would i compare
as one so sweet –
to steal my heart
away

. . .

was for this ~

destiny, fate, for this, heaven here, home, love, meant to be, memory, somewhere the stars

save for me
a moment here –
before the dawn is come
while still
the night birds
flutter to my breast
wait for me
make for me
as once you dreamed
a life
take your name
from off these hungry lips
suffer my confession
was for this
i came to be
across a million tribes
an angry sea
saved for you
made for you
love i won’t forsake
hands to reach
whisper me
to home

. . .

into the tender ~

within these
lonely hands
once your love
permitted –
flush against my breast
do you remember
how it was
the ways we came
to realize
our love
our lowly purpose
when the sky went dark
was for this
you came around
words
beneath an echo
of wings –
a wilderness
pressed into the tender
of my need
do you remember
how it was
the ways we came –
surrender
the winds have died
but lonely hands
they grieve

. . .

from the start ~

how many words
were wasted
in the rush
to get them down
rhyme i thought would save me
never did

years disturbing pages
awaiting verse
to come
poetry –
i knew you from the start

the way you traded
syllables
passions understood
as story memorized –
please tell me
now

where each pause is fitted
a place to hold
it all
the way to feel
everything –
words before the fall

how was i to recognize
your beat
within my own
rhyme i chose
ten thousand lines
ago

Author’s Note: I may be the poet, but you – you are the poem ❤

beyond the shadows ~

i will wait
beyond the shadows
near the rivers edge
i shall kneel
beside the place where heaven turns
where the water
rushes stronger –
than my memory is old
a crush of almost everything
i came for this
to know
i will wait
as april wishes
are swept beyond the veil
til you have come
reminding me of home
i will wait
the red sky morning
your kiss upon my brow
i will wait
beyond the shadows
to remember why
i came

. . .

before i could speak ~

i have loved
without worry
for where it might end
slept through a dream
with no memory
of home
tasted your name
before i could speak
waited this moment
to come
i have lost
i have fallen
i have wandered away
on promises dealt
without want for the rest
without need to remember –
a love such as this
sunlight where darkness
made sense
of it all
then somewhere
forever fell from a wish –
promises meant
to be true
i tasted your name
before i could speak –
waiting a memory
of you

. . .

in the lonely ~

come home, fate, love, poetry, realization, time, truth, waiting

in the silence
before you spoke my name
the first
the last
my only
did remembrance
fall softer than concern
to the ways for getting back
for getting over
in the lonely
before i took your hand
did you understand
i didn’t
never could
be made to see
how sweet the every day
the many ways
you came
to love me
in the silence
before you spoke –
before you spoke
my name

. . .

rivers fall
a rainbow
to appease a hurricane
brushed into
the places
once i grieved
tears surrendered
everything
thought of nothing more
than a hurt to heal
years for letting in
beyond the sky
of smokescreen –
beyond the reach
of lies
came of love
to find me –
waiting still
beneath a stretch of color
rainbows
i have seen –
reflecting me a river
in your eyes
