chance, destiny, echoes, holding you here, life, love, memory, places we have loved, seasons, spirit, time, winter

are there days
when you are haunted
whispers to your heart –
a melody you gave to me
so long ago

echoes through the winter
where once you gave it reign
without a thought
to losing all
you know

are there mornings
folded soft
against the certainty of time
a sunrise burning hot
against your soul

. . .

once to come ~

breath (2)

I asked you once to come –
when winter was melted
as petals pushed forward
to remember
the home
I described for you
in the silver convergence
of dreams

I asked you come
to stay beyond
leaving
one more time
to hold me together
through another
letting go

I asked you to come
but now –
recalling
has lessened the reasons
for wanting you here
when spring
is returning
– and the winter
so fond in remembrance
has left me
to go

where once I begged you
to come

. . .

a whisper of remember me ~

backtohome

was a time
I might have fretted –
December days
without a call
a moment of concession
longing miles –
none at all

with a whisper of
remember me
another place
where time began
how funny now
my grieving weighs
each start to start again

January soon will pass
within a numbered
swell of tides
to ease the ache
of missing –
a voice
where love
abides

. . .

things I might have changed ~

belonging

for another day
a lifetime rent –
for wishes undenied
one last kiss –
one verse upon my brow
too many more
than I endured
to save for any less –
the way I came
much sweeter than before

I only dreamed
to finish here –
until the dying came
until my waiting freed
one more goodbye
– will then I dare
remembrance
of things I might have changed
had winter passed
with not so harsh
a claim

. . .

into fading ~

cottage home 2018

how long I’ve spent
in looking back
to a place just out of view
to years before
I counted –
a time before I knew

of light
by shadows mingled
lanterns along my spine
wonder held in boxes
– for a moment
all was mine

as stardust into
wishes –
a promise yet to keep
snow became a lover
– dreamed me back
to sleep

. . .

when all the rest are gone ~

somewhereI (2)

what willing spring
shall flutter
as leaves into a stream
to take away
the chill that wears my bones

what blossom
yet imagined
is tempted from the seed
to right the window sill
inside my home

what memory
shall warm me –
as places I have known
a breath of everything I love
when all the rest are gone

. . .

resolved ~

something matters more

tiny pearls
were wishes made
one night before the summer
was rained upon
the meadow –
let me in
whispering a story
lived I not for long
chances took
and I am here
again

silent
spools the ruby red
feathers to the limb
while just a bit
aways
the blue
becomes
resolved to something
bigger
floating to the ground
swept beneath
the sleeping winter
dawn

. . .

messenger ~

closer

who are you
the winter cried –
as green began to gather
taken by surprise
his woolen cloak

who are you
to come for me –
robbing me of stories
white as comfort
lay atop the sheets

who are you
with sharpened bill
to bury in my bosom –
left of times before
one seed remained

a messenger
of almost light –
December
freed of fortunes
now to break me open
with your sun

who are you
to find me here –
knowing (as you know)
tears already melted
– rivers
wear my name

. . .

hush ~

promise

november
barely made a hush
when passed outside my door
as traces
of the winter
tempted me

quiet slept
wrapped in snow –
somewhere near the road
but further from the world
than needed be

to see the stars
they aren’t the same
as bright from near the city
I wonder sometimes
lately what you know

magic flies
the liquid night –
on wings of never touching
luna does her best
to stay away

press my words
against the cold –
wherever love is still
wondering the reasons
we were come

just beyond the promise
where spring
her wait is done –
seeds of our november
yet to bloom

. . .

blue to smoke ~

remember me
to empty arms –
an ember of belonging
places reconstructed by the light
remember these
of mysteries –
awaited your divine
petals opened now
will never close

remember me
the dapple sun –
as folded to her rising
the memory of raindrops
on the lawn
garner me
a time to tell –
promises forgotten
of breath returned in secret
blue within the smoke

remember me
as ink professed –
chapters now fulfilling
markers where the end was meant to be
carry love
as autumn crops –
harvest for the journey
a winter not yet satisfied
of snowflakes
gathering

remember me
of falling down –
and evenings spooled with grace
of slow unwinds
beneath the pines –
to bring me back this way
remember us –
to evermore
was there we first began
with hope for one more season
to every might have been

remember me –
the summer storm
of winter
to the trees
