in the pause
of grey November –
bluest feathers
ashes fell
into secrets
I remembered not to tell
lest they soar away
pearly blue
wingeds seeking flight
floating into echoes
all can hear
will another sun
be realized
things I whispered there
written to your skin –
upon your soul
will I remember silence traded
when I’ve forgotten
every word –
will love become
the only voice
I know

. . .

a whisper of remember me ~

backtohome

was a time
I might have fretted –
December days
without a call
a moment of concession
longing miles –
none at all

with a whisper of
remember me
another place
where time began
how funny now
my grieving weighs
each start to start again

January soon will pass
within a numbered
swell of tides
to ease the ache
of missing –
a voice
where love
abides

. . .

moments scattered everywhere ~

somewhereyou

from pages torn
a story telling
of times before I cannot say
the journey through
or where I found you
somewhere lost along the way

of fields and flowers
dirt poor mornings –
with honeysuckle pillows there
I knew you
in the sweetest way –
by moments scattered
everywhere

of promise shared
and others buried –
to make a fire of bodies worn
by something more than everafter –
seasons cleft
another born

into a place
of resurrection –
names the least of all we knew
how it was
the soul remembered
the road I took
in finding you

. . .

almost gone ~

deeper

for every rise
another shore
is left beyond the tide
another heart
where once I broke the same
along these lines
a scar or two –
faded
almost gone
but still the heart
remembers love
by name

. . .

longer still ~

dreamy

for every time
another played –
some other passing by
a dream was I
becoming
another sweet embrace
hands betraying
voices
whispers to the dark
promise made
was ne’er a promise come
to find the weary
lead me back
across the deep divide
recalled as one
another life denied
lead me
love me –
longer still
when moons are shining
brave
when souls are worn
by names we never
said

. . .

worn out rhyme ~

stay

told me once
but I don’t recall
names and faces
line the hall
someone I’ve forgotten
to remember
a story passed
from son to son
a daughter came
the only one
to see beyond
the circumstance
of fences

broken by this
getting on
healed by hands
tired and worn
graces said before
the lay me down
to hear again
the sacred drum
beat with wonder
I’ve become
the answer to another
sweet amen

a fate decided
while I slept
reminders of a secret kept
and choices made
was there no choice
at all
but take of life
a moment more
of passions
locked away before
somewhere I was sure
you’d never find

a future folded
nice and neat
against the sunshine
of my sheets
way back on the shelf
of memory
dreams of people
I don’t know
crowding round to let me go
kisses where
the curtains touch
the ground

tell me how it seemed to you
give me something
I can do
speak of places
one last time
to leave

dirty dishes
everywhere
worn out rhyme
but I don’t care
they warm against
the places
you were there
taking notes
and stealing time
with promises
to fit with mine
lines to cross
eternities
of one

. . .

Author’s Note: While coffee is my drink of choice, I periodically
indulge in a hot tea – white with orange. It brings me sweet slumber,
up until the time it wakes me up for a trip down the hall. But even then,
it’s not without the benefit of words. Writing in the dark.

still life ~

nights bring the sound
of hands passing slowly
pull me back ’round
to the place I belong

small and remembered
for voices I’m keeping
in the silent impressions
of love I have known

filling the spaces
as my heart is split open
and names
one by one –
are repeated in time

for those never far
left behind –
in the scatter
stories unspoken
find their freedom
in mine

to sit with me now
as another dawn glistens
from knees to the cross
not forsaken –
their souls

stirring in grace
gentle hands fold together –
as sorrow finds beauty
in the voices
I hold

“While there is a lower class, I am in it; while there is a criminal
element, I am of it; while there is a soul in prision,
I am not free.” ~ Eugene V Debs
