another time, fate, graces, life, love, one more everything

had I days
left to squander –
time to give away
the right of grace
sorrows broken free
from everything we wanted
everything we changed
where comes my love
with promise
e’er to be –

a dying wish
a bitter taste –
forgiveness I let lie
negated by the winter
some solace
given here
shall I wait
forever –
this purpose to
receive
another
one more life
to hold you near

age, another time, heart, home, in another life, love, memory, parallel lives, presence, spirit, time, truth, what we keep

in another life
the coffee can wait
time is forgotten
as whiskers
memorize my skin
but I’ll not complain
for fear of less
the wait
to drift between
fragile as these worlds
of might have been

in another life
kids are laughing
you are laughing too
a smile invades your eyes
as I concede
hands reach out
across the day –
a distance not so far
a touch
as I’m reminded
not to leave

in another life
years are past
and still you hold my hand
echoes of a lifetime
nearly gone
folded into letters
tucked against
my heart –
souls are faded
nearly into one

in another life
water falls
blue into the light
my feet are bare
the river cold
as cedars rise above
songbirds sit on branches
familiar as their songs –
silence waits
the welcome of your
love

all we've known to love, almost always, and still, another time, essential truth, life, love, remembered anew

our time
resolved
with but a word
stay
and I again
remembered this
the notion of a dream
ashes
I could never hold
the promise
of a kiss

another me, another time, dreams, home, life, love, memory, recollection, truth, writing in the dark

in moments
just before the dream
I recall another life
sunlight through the curtains –
a whispering of pines
waiting by my window
watching for a sign
for another you –
come some other time

and for a while
there is no distance
greater than a sigh –
no night
denied of sleep
would I divide
between the life I understand
and another lived apart
safe as is my pillow –
a refuge to
my heart

another time, faith, letting go, life, love, memory, time, trust, truth, understanding

gulf tides 2019

for every time
you left me
beneath a cobalt sky –
was another
when you taught me
how to fly

for every hurt
I carry –
a memory of trust
another place
awaited –
just for us

for every chance
worth taking –
were nights I grieved alone
– yet love is all
I really need
to know

for every sigh
another fell –
moonlight to my skin
for every time
I found you here –
I let you go
again

. . .

once to come ~

breath (2)

I asked you once to come –
when winter was melted
as petals pushed forward
to remember
the home
I described for you
in the silver convergence
of dreams

I asked you come
to stay beyond
leaving
one more time
to hold me together
through another
letting go

I asked you to come
but now –
recalling
has lessened the reasons
for wanting you here
when spring
is returning
– and the winter
so fond in remembrance
has left me
to go

where once I begged you
to come

. . .

ancient winters ~

sweetlythis

he spoke
of distant mornings
(a light she strained to see)
she wrote
of lowly purpose
filled with love
(and mystery)

he listened
as she listened
they talked
(and talked some more)
of the road
they passed together
another way
(sometime) before

he spoke
of ancient winters
(a field where brothers fell)
she spoke
in careful whispers
of a loss
she grieved (as well)

he cried
and she was tender
(in the catching of each tear)
she reached
to find him (waiting)
(with want
to have her) near

he stayed
(beyond the leaving)
lest she ever think
him gone
as she woke
beyond the darkness
a star
(for wishing on)
