age, destiny, life, love, seeker, still, time, truth, what we keep

when my end
is come
will i taste
your name
as i rush
the silver ethers
a final turn
at destinies
where moments pass –
a breath between
wherein my pulse
is tamed
a memory
where yesterday
remains

. . .

life, longing, love, memory, remains of another day, seasons, time, truth, what we keep

how far
from Spring to wander
I can scarce
recall perfumes –
wafts of honeysuckle
sacred vine
days beneath the sun
echoes of another
spilled into
a morning
just as this
boughs already emptied
tho memory persists
wherever now our secrets
fill the wind

. . .

age, gifts, home, journey, life, love, memory, seasons, time, truth, what we keep

were there signs
we failed to notice
edges faded gray
words we lost in speaking
as hearts for others
paid

other lives
we left forsaking
what might be our last goodbye
what might wait
beyond the sunset
coral wings
against the night

without fault
without remembrance
lest our days be counted less
than a moment
life was traded –
soul for soul
breath for breath

were there signs
we gave each other
memory carved into the soul
touching places
we were lovers –
coming home
and letting go

. . .

blessing, journey, passage, promise, seasons, spirit memory, time, trust, what we keep

until the end
of all we’ve gathered
this my vow
i make to thee
to free my heart
of every wanting –
love that not a tear
shall ease

until the sun
is burned to cinder
spreading heat
across the day
I shall lie awake
til morning –
to pull you in
and beg you stay

until my lips
are words forsaken
coldest night
in which we sleep
I shall dream
your arms around me –
as heaven here
my soul
will keep

age, another time, heart, home, in another life, love, memory, parallel lives, presence, spirit, time, truth, what we keep

in another life
the coffee can wait
time is forgotten
as whiskers
memorize my skin
but I’ll not complain
for fear of less
the wait
to drift between
fragile as these worlds
of might have been

in another life
kids are laughing
you are laughing too
a smile invades your eyes
as I concede
hands reach out
across the day –
a distance not so far
a touch
as I’m reminded
not to leave

in another life
years are past
and still you hold my hand
echoes of a lifetime
nearly gone
folded into letters
tucked against
my heart –
souls are faded
nearly into one

in another life
water falls
blue into the light
my feet are bare
the river cold
as cedars rise above
songbirds sit on branches
familiar as their songs –
silence waits
the welcome of your
love

blessings, grief, kiss, life, love, lovers, seasons, souvenirs, time, truth, wealth, what we keep

what feelings
will tomorrow bear
when I return to dust –
the path we wandered
helplessly –
hands becoming one
will someone seek
the answers –
as tender years unfold
will verses speak
to lovers
seeking solace
from this load
with time so short
sometimes unfair –
grant me this goodbye
that I might memorize
the ways we came
grant me nothing more
than one more kiss –
a final breath
made sweeter by
your name

. . .

returning ~

age, death, life, love, memory, scars, sometimes, story, truth, what we keep, years

history
keeps no record
of lives I lived before –
choices made
a promise trade
as want for evermore
no place
I should have faltered
a kiss I might have kept –
had I known
the fear in falling
was answer for regrets
another time
some other day –
and I without a doubt
lived my life
returning –
to the place
once dreamed about
will age erase
my story –
ease these scars I wear
take from me
your memory
moments written there
another day
some other time –
years before I knew
I was waiting
for the moment
when I’d
remember you

. . .

everything I keep ~

all I really know, becoming, life, love, memory, season, time, truth, what we keep

was not for me
yet all for me
the first
my last amen
names
so long forsaken
rise again

as psalms
before a jubilee
as rites to ashes fall
surrendered now
as pardon
unto grace

in moments
left for living –
of blessings yet to reap
as winters fall
to memory
of everything
I keep

heart, life, love, memory, prodigal, reminders, soul memory, truth, what we keep

yesterhere

wonder sits
in empty sinks
as proof of my surrender –
a cloudless blue
denies the call for rain
memory returning
of a day I knew you well –
wishes made
another to remain

solace bears
a single touch –
beyond the want for leaving
lines erased
by all we dared to dream

loving arms to wrap around
souvenirs for keeping –
blessings for the journey
stretched between

for all I am
this little known
as truth again becoming –
a way beyond
the circumstance of will
as want for nothing
time is left
with moments sweet
(remember)
hands –
almost forgotten
how they feel

. . .

never mine ~

blessings, grace, life, love, offerings, time, truth, what we keep, wonder

into grace

of these
small bits of wonder –
how many shall I keep
how many shared
beyond this fragile sleep

what bliss
was come to give away
what joy
was ever mine –
held the daybreak
years before my time

what laughter
lingers sweetly
as music down the hall
– poetry
I never knew
at all

never mine
else love become
anchored to a place
fell from these
two hands –
into grace
