had we nothing
save these mortal pains
days without restraint
had we much
or something more
than diamonds held
stars beyond the gate
hands to fit
in places dark
eyes to light
the deep
were something less
worth coming for
i think not
now we see
the sky
recalls each moment –
portals to the past
as blue made dreams
remember –
we fell
as wishes cast

days between, endearing, gifts, life, longing, love, remembrance, time

sunrise burns
beyond the steeple spire
melting every doubt
I’ve held between
the moment
you were taken back
breath you stole away
e’en now my hands
deny the warmth
you gifted me
that day
words no longer
flatter
poison for my tongue
yet still I taste
your name upon my lips
a prayer
I’ve not forsaken
a sigh
repeated sweet
pressed within the memory
of evermore
a kiss

do you remember
how the curtains fell
to let the starlight in

stay
as once you promised
when the snow was deeply come
another time when ash
was falling down –
when the wheat was dry
one summer
afternoon
mid July
swarms of honeybees
beyond the barn
stay
let me love you
for this eternity
were these words
the price for hearing
silently
I will listen
til memories
have taken all I am
and filled my empty heart
with destiny

these arms
have ne’er forgotten
the warmth
that was your touch
fingers still to ache
beneath the burn

verses grieve
a loss of words –
pleas for one more time
destiny
rewritten
sacred rhyme

my soul
protects the memory –
of other
lives I missed
my heart
denied the breaking
by your kiss

this day
of all others
this shift in the light
a sweet celebration
aligned with the night
I’m not much for promise
tears aren’t my style –
but as dark
became morning
I drifted a while
to far away summers
and sweet sunny days
when someone spoke softly
and someone remains
blessed by the memory
of a kiss
and a prayer –
of wishes made whole
by the stars

a hand to hold, a jealous moon, all we've known to love, gifts, life, love, perpetual grace, time

i’ve concluded
my fate –
a cold cup of coffee
a view through a window
as the sun
starts to rise
a silence so pure
i dare not disturb
with a rush
to remember –
tears fill my eyes

i’ve concluded
the way –
is one i am taking
a path where sorrow
carries my name
a walk neath cedars
as moonlight
comes calling –
jealousy spurned
as the first time
he came

age, gifts, home, journey, life, love, memory, seasons, time, truth, what we keep

were there signs
we failed to notice
edges faded gray
words we lost in speaking
as hearts for others
paid

other lives
we left forsaking
what might be our last goodbye
what might wait
beyond the sunset
coral wings
against the night

without fault
without remembrance
lest our days be counted less
than a moment
life was traded –
soul for soul
breath for breath

were there signs
we gave each other
memory carved into the soul
touching places
we were lovers –
coming home
and letting go

near the end
he wandered –
could scarce remember me
a vanilla shake
then
he’d start to fall
searching for a memory
within a stranger’s face
a picture of a picture
permanence displaced
tho now and then
those liquid eyes
would speak when words were lost
in silent conversations
we’d say it all –
the best of best
a world made right
love –
and there’d we stay
wrapped within the moment
of ten thousand
sweeter days
I’d whisper
as he fell in love
with a voice he knew by heart
arms that reached
to find him –
with every precious
start

. . .

Author’s Note: In the months before my daddy passed, there would be days when I visited – days when he didn’t know me. Yet, he would allow me there, watching my hands as I touched him, my mouth as I spoke…… I’ve often said that every girl should be allowed at least one moment when their father falls in love with them. ❤ And here, we stay.

all we've known to love, and still, gifts, home, life, lifetimes more, love, naked truth, summer, where we were when

let me be
always –
a choice yet to make
decided one evening
to fall
to lean out the window
and pull down the moon –
to wait out the winter
without one regret
til midnight is shamed
by threats of retreat
til moths
fill light with their wings
when morning is scattered
by every goodbye
and I’m making plans
to escape
wrapped in a blanket
penned to your heart
lavender sheets
hung out to dry
forgive my remembrance
get me to home
returned to your arms
late one July
I’ve forgotten how warm
the afternoon sun –
baked into memory
how long
you remain

closer now to heaven than the stars, destiny, gifts, love, risk, seasons, time, truth

for the briefest
of breaths –
soul is the same
as slipped across ages
and spread to a page –
an ending made simple
a vow sure to break
was call to remember
a dream come awake –
unspoken tomorrows
by promise undone
a thief of transgressions
forbidden by none
I shall live
with the learning –
and cling to the bar
was lifted by love
gone a little
too far
