a hand to hold, allowing, and still, everywhere I am, love, not yet, truth

i knew
when first we loved
how we’d be
some other time
when the road was gone –
and every light
grown dark

i knew
how could i know
were there words
we couldn’t say
promise not yet wished
when we fell
into the stars

i knew
when there was nothing
save the echo
of your voice –
as silver wingeds brushed
against my heart

i knew
when we were started
yet i had not strength
to give
beyond the dream
of one more place
we are

. . .

o’er my soul ~

a hand to hold, back into loving arms, essential truth, fleeting seasons, life, love

i know the language
all too well
the wind
the river’s moan
a melody replayed
– falling water
o’er my soul

i hear the stars
feel their ache
each time
the light is gone
i know the way
a moment touches
everything
we know

i’ve made peace
and cursed a name
a kiss to burn the night –
slept in fields
where clover bent
the sky

i know the way
have passed it more than once
along the years
a break beneath
the branches –
as I am brought to tears

i know the language
all too well
the wind
the river’s moan

. . .

how it was to break ~

a hand to hold, a jealous moon, allowing, and still, before we understood, life, love, time

tell me
where your words
have gone
where the key
is kept
will truth
be ours to scatter
o’er lifetimes
we have left

will time
resort to flying
will your heart
find rest with mine
will words
be lost in how it was
to break

were my faith
a consequence –
of a promised
one more verse
where time is stilled
with every sigh
remembered

tell me
where your words
have gone –
where the key
is kept

. . .

a way I cannot find ~

a hand to hold, allowance, and still, essential truth, lives intertwined, love, no regrets

for moments there
sun bleached red
leaves were
falling down
parchment wings
against the sky
I’ve never been
one to curse –
one to bleed for long
the sky split open
goodbye

names resurface
pieces of a way I cannot find
tempted by a place
I linger still
with so much to remember
so few to put it down
prayers to ease
the wanting –
for words beyond
my will

. . .

my song ~

a hand to hold, a name upon my lips, always we begin, belonging to none, home, life, love the only truth, story

for moments
unaccounted –
a lifeline strung along
love awaited
past pretension
not to worry
at your wrongs –
your ways
a plea becoming
words I wait
the night to hear
touch I crave
this one and
only –
you were come
and love was here
in the cool
beneath my pillow
shadows
folded into dawn
moments
time became
illusion
when your touch
became
my song

. . .

taste of ash ~

a hand to hold, beyond the knowing, everywhere I am, home another way, love the only truth, radical remembering

what loss
might i concede
holding back the storm
waiting yet of fate –
a certain fall
when years are spread
beyond the snow
as northern lights –
a summer kiss
recalled

sweet
the taste of ash –
as bitter once a flame
cooled against my tongue
another day
grieve my hands
tender lands
given time to know
was paradise
by some other name

will truth be found
more than this
a muted understanding
lines
where none were drawn
empty folds
lifetimes to become
silences –
to rise
warmth to seek
whene’er the ground
goes cold

. . .

sorrow knows my name ~

a hand to hold, a jealous moon, all we've known to love, gifts, life, love, perpetual grace, time

i’ve concluded
my fate –
a cold cup of coffee
a view through a window
as the sun
starts to rise
a silence so pure
i dare not disturb
with a rush
to remember –
tears fill my eyes

i’ve concluded
the way –
is one i am taking
a path where sorrow
carries my name
a walk neath cedars
as moonlight
comes calling –
jealousy spurned
as the first time
he came

a hand to hold, a time for telling, abudance, as easy as breathing, essential truth, life, love

ancient moon
surrender this –
your place
within my sighs
keeper of confessions
I have made
blush against
the darkness
captive to my whims
jealous comes a lover
to my bed
eager to remember
whispers
to the night –
sunrise come
to steal
your love away

. . .

first to whisper ~

a hand to hold, a name upon my lips, a walk in the woods, all I know, love

when I’ve forgotten
who would dare
to speak of you that way
reminders to a heart
nearly healed
who will be
first to whisper
each time
my laughter falls
counting not
my tears
have burned away
when I’ve forgotten
who will come
to fill these empty
arms –
a muse to take
your place
another day
who will know
of memories –
I’ve tucked where none
can see –

. . .

remembrance ~

a hand to hold, abundance, grace, living a better story, love, moments, mystery, time, truth, writing in the dark

from the edges
I’m reminded –
the many ways
of love –
of wordless joy
you never told me why
the heart has
no remembrance –
the ease of letting go
of moments
stretched
the length of time –
this evermore
to hold
