a moment to hold eternity, all we've known to love, carry me home, gift, life, longing, love

you’re the page
i imagined
paper i loved
spread cross the table
to the edge
of my cup
fingers bleeding
and clutched
caught in a prayer
about longing
and a way to make love
without touching

. . .

without a way ~

all we've known to love, breath of life, find me, heaven memorized, home, truth

were there years
you thought to find me –
without a way
to know
I waited you
beyond the winter wheat
beyond the wish
became a star –
light beyond the barn
a summer sun
where evermore
was me

. . .

was a time

all we've known to love, loving, perpetual grace, sometimes, story, time, truth, witness

was a time
you were waiting
the first alarm to ring
would pull me
from my dream
into your arms
into the warmth of sunrise
burning me your skin
restless in our
promise
to begin
wrapped inside
a silence –
the measure of a sigh
intimacy
with barely room
to breathe
touch is come
reminders
of the night we’ve
passed beyond
forgotten now
the fleeting thought
to leave

. . .

loss we’ll never know ~

all that we keep, all we've known to love, blessings of the heart, breaths between eternities, lessons in everything, life, love, truth

how much of love
is squandered
by need to have it all
as every lock
a silent sigh
is witness to a fall

as promise balanced
tender
upon the sword of faith
how is it
love is come for us –
with gifts
to give away

denied the rules
for holding on –
some loss
we’ll never know
of fated ever-afters
revealed
in letting go

. . .

Author’s Note: It took me a long time to learn this about love. It took most of my life to see that any attempt to define love only served to make it less. Every rule resulted in less of the thing I desired most. Only when the rules were burned did I reap an abundance of that which had so alluded me.

a hand to hold, a jealous moon, all we've known to love, gifts, life, love, perpetual grace, time

i’ve concluded
my fate –
a cold cup of coffee
a view through a window
as the sun
starts to rise
a silence so pure
i dare not disturb
with a rush
to remember –
tears fill my eyes

i’ve concluded
the way –
is one i am taking
a path where sorrow
carries my name
a walk neath cedars
as moonlight
comes calling –
jealousy spurned
as the first time
he came

all I know, all we've known to love, find me, life, memory, still, truth

i have no say
in destinies
chance another wrought
no proof
you held my hand
or kissed my lips
as lifetimes felt
beneath your touch
eternities denied
as breath where words
are tangled
love persists

a page or two
folded now
held against my breast
tethered to a moment
we remain
beyond the hold
of circumstance
within the reach
of dreams
a sigh to wear
the memory
of your name

i have no say
in destinies
chance another wrought
no proof
you held my hand
or kissed my lips

. . .

“I will look for you in every lifetime and love you there.”

all we've known to love, becoming me, breath of life, essence, fragrance, home, nature

before the bloom
became of dreams –
meadows without end
fraught with yellows
denim blue
and bark
before the sun
recalled in death
the sanctity of time –
was tempt to spin
hastened by the dark
who am I
can you forgive
what of me was less
a cotton robe
dirty soles
ruby reds to kiss
before the bloom
was sacrificed
perfume filled the air
pastures bathed in splendor –
with nothing to
compare

. . .

all we've known to love, and still, gifts, home, life, lifetimes more, love, naked truth, summer, where we were when

let me be
always –
a choice yet to make
decided one evening
to fall
to lean out the window
and pull down the moon –
to wait out the winter
without one regret
til midnight is shamed
by threats of retreat
til moths
fill light with their wings
when morning is scattered
by every goodbye
and I’m making plans
to escape
wrapped in a blanket
penned to your heart
lavender sheets
hung out to dry
forgive my remembrance
get me to home
returned to your arms
late one July
I’ve forgotten how warm
the afternoon sun –
baked into memory
how long
you remain

. . .

even now ~

all we've known to love, close enough to touch, essence, life, memory, spirit home, story

in a far away place
where story began –
at the mention
of somebody’s name
with the turn of a smile
the wink of an eye
marbles rolled
from my hands
a life started over
as break from the fall
where now
even now
they say grace –
a stifled amen was for
memories made
fates written over
by destiny’s plight
touch
where memory
ends

. . .

stay ~

all we've known to love, almost always, and still, another time, essential truth, life, love, remembered anew

our time
resolved
with but a word
stay
and I again
remembered this
the notion of a dream
ashes
I could never hold
the promise
of a kiss
