you’re the page
i imagined
paper i loved
spread cross the table
to the edge
of my cup
fingers bleeding
and clutched
caught in a prayer
about longing
and a way to make love
without touching

17 Thursday Feb 2022
had i waited
on the spring
to gather me
for home –
the scent of winterberries
on the vine
had i held my breath
a moment here
to let the snowfall melt
bare feet
where roses grew
one morning
you were mine
as shadows burned
to daylight
dancers on the floor
pages from our story
to defend
when recalled
the times we wasted
waiting one more
kiss –
leaves became
the color of the sun
destined
by the cold
to fall again

arms reached around, carry me home, kentucky, lexington, love, permission to breathe, personal, seasons, sunset, time, truth
was a time
not so distant
it still takes my breath
– memory clear
as a Lexington sky
fell from my pocket
to meld with my skin
a moment when wish
reached the light
a fragile surrender
as ages before –
sweet was the day
another
of you
merged into wonder
I remember
your eyes
took hold of my heart
as you did
what you do
with your smile
holding knowledge
of places beyond
where every tomorrow
is witness to this
soul recognition
as a glance turned again
recalled
to the curve
of your lips
with nothing to trade
but lifetimes
to give
save the illusion
forever might be
cradled in arms
I remember them well
as dreams of Kentucky
awakened
in me

carry me home, dreams, feelings, life, love, pieces, pieces of me, poet, thoughts, trust, words, writing in the dark
sometimes
my words are thwarted
by sunlight
through the pines
a moment
just before I meant
to go
last night’s inspiration
is tucked inside my shirt
tho later I
will wonder
why they came
and what they know
collected from the fragments
of a moment
I was gone
emptied to the darkness
deep as I would trust
cleft within the silence –
holding back a fire
sometimes
I beg forgiveness
without a thought to why
guarded in my love
for other
worlds

a hand to hold, aligned, all I know, always we begin, awareness, been found, carry me home, closer to heaven than the stars, life, love, spirit
was never meant
to feign desire –
as years I put behind
of hands to fit
the same remorse as mine –
tis not so far
til I am found –
I’ve searched most all my days
for home I knew
awaited –
was more than just
a place

a light on the porch, carry me home, forgotten path, journey, life, love, memory, time
the path is worn
as if o’er time –
the way might be erased
tho flowers bloom each Sunday
after all
midnight yearns
and I have learned –
tis not for me to squander
the hope for one more
morning –
wherever promise falls
each time
I think I might be gone
I find the door ajar –
locks once held the windows
rusted now
lights I thought would never burn
stream a golden pasture
echoes ring
remember me –
should e’er your heart
allow

back into loving arms, carry me home, circle of life, desire, divine truth, love, nature, seasons, spirit
I’ve been warned
there is a dreamer
rests beneath my collar bone
spends the night
curled beneath me –
a fiery furnace made of stone
sometimes words can resurrect us
from all we loved
all we know –
of the joys recalled in living
hand to heart
soul to soul
in the leaves
I hear the ocean
silent strumming on the shore
as I walk the beach at sunrise
I feel the trees like ne’er before
one remains
and one remembers
where is home
and what I keep
of the blessings that surround me
broken seashells
velvet leaves

beginnings, beyond the knowing, carry me home, life, love, meadow, nature, orchard, redbud, tennessee, truth, woods
how weary I
the seasons pass –
a burst of blush removed
beneath a sky
of thunderbirds –
above a birth of stone
silence weighs against me
as echoes fill the space
was once my heart
now my roots
have reached beyond the moment
beyond the mountainside
an orchard blooms
somewhere
within my name
