had i vision then
to comprehend
the magic
you would bring
how sweet the peace
perfected by your smile
had i known
you would be everything
every sunrise
every mile
would make for me
another life
beyond this one –
beyond the fate
i traded
long ago
had i known of you
known of us –
another spring to keep
stories yet unfolding
dreams beyond
my sleep

futures to uncover ~

another life, home we never left, love, remembering, star crossed, time, witness to eternity

As promise given
soul to soul –
as sunlight to the shadows –
would for the truth
I burst into a flame –
and leave my mark of cinder –
charcoal
memories etched –

How could I know
the rest of me
was you

Before the past
is ever passed
as futures to uncover –
a moment there
pretending not to be –
A breath in time
but I confess
forever stretched to fill it –
leaving thought
to guard the days
between

Eternity –
a place began
by whispers sworn to silence
Dare I speak
and hear your voice again

Words can never garner
a story so familiar –
you close your eyes
and I resign to sleep

i want a white dress
a red painted wagon
a tractor i can’t drive
but i can watch
you from the window
of a dream
no one noticed
growing from weeds
constellations
in your eyes
i want a sunset
tennessee
or alabama
it don’t matter
to the roads
that brought us home
i want a white dress
a red painted wagon
a tractor
i can’t drive
but i can watch
you from the window
of a dream

of nothing
not much do I have
tho i beg you
to take what you will
go without speaking
let me a kiss
the warmth of your name
still burning
my lips

of boxes
and winters
ten thousand years
i made of my life
one sweet yesterday –
coffee left stains
on the floor
where I knelt
burning my secrets
away

echoes
are scattered
high on a shelf
where once I kept photos
pieces of us
stored without thought
to where we might be –
or how far the stars
still to fall

i am touch
where intention
spilled to the light
flailing as vows
to be heard
a long night beginning
with no easy answers –
let me sleep
with my heart
on your sword

i am graces
neglected –
secrets let be
lifetimes made over
again
let me stay
for a moment
before I am fade
to nothing
but words
on your skin

was never ours
the fault to keep
for stars once realigned
as others claimed
by wishes
before the dawn could rise
when for a moment
I was rocked
beneath a stand of firs –
braced against your song
against your heart
slower still
the move of hands
to capture everything
a string of lights
across the night –
as fates were
broken free

at once familiar ~

howcouldyouknow

now and then
I dare remember
all I wanted from the start
a beginning
without ending
a quiet flutter of my heart

it seemed so simple
in the wishing –
one night beneath the stars
as I stood atop the rafters
flanked by jupiter
and mars

without names
or constellation –
but a time to find again
someone come
at once familiar –
warm as blood
beneath my skin

for a moment
I did wonder
of the nights
to pass between
drawing near unto forever –
as a destiny unseen

by a girl
not so different
than ten thousand more
you’ve known
born of want –
another summer
when you made a wish
your own

. . .

time to time ~

home

from time to time
the stars align
and I wonder what we had in mind
when we wished aloud
some other day
on lights burned out
along the way

somewherestill

take of breath
my last surrender –
cleave these tired hands
tell me now of promise
never meant
to understand

when nothing else
is mattered –
will you watch
or dare you stay
skin to skin
beat to beating –
one more leaving
held at bay

roads were lost
but I won’t let them
take of these
the best I am –
burn the house
and clear the pasture
life will live
love will last

beyond these dreams
of temporary
things I have not voice
to tell
nights beyond
the reach of morning
heaven split
the realms of hell

take me home
tempt not slumber –
another time for us allowed
worry not for days
forsaken –
memories to grieve
now

. . .

rememberedhere

on this sweltering dawn
I stand barefoot on a narrow step
looking out through eyes
blurred by emotion
seeking an unknown part of my past
a place I must have known
would find me here
with no one yet to answer
but for me
the purple buds are tempted
another week to stay

sorrow comes easily
as in the counting still –
of friends he seems
more willing than the rest
to listen as my heart concedes
I knew not when to break
or what of verses now
would yesterday
forsake

silent
raindrops
will comfort me now
a hundred times – of listening
volumes unconfessed
across a missing
separated –
mourning
words of love

how long this day
in coming
was there time before this loss
I can finally begin to recite
in an almost whisper
ten thousand volumes
of verse I never shared
and let my heart beat steadily
the celestial rhythms
of mourning
and show you the depths –

sentiment
hidden for the lifetime
that has separated us
