life, love, patience, seasons, time, truth, wherever you are

of moments
long neglected –
choice to resurrect
a promise made
another day to find
whatever fate
was guided
by permission to arrive
was worth the way
deserted –
in my haste
to make you mine

for every moment
traded
dreams i let to dry
fields allowed to wither
in the sun
paths no longer open
covered disbelief
a night denied
the stars –
i knew you then

. . .

seventeen ~

arrival, eternity, life, love, moments, patience, remembered home, sacred divine, time

i shall wait
past the leaving –
far beyond the night
when dust
finds the moon
i shiver
sometimes
to remember the way
you surrendered
my name
in the dark
before dawn stirred to life
seventeen
i was then
when i loved
you the first
i shall wait
past the waking –
for years yet to be
til eternity comes
as a voice
on the breeze
to remember me home
to arms
opened wide
i shall wait
for a lifetime –
this moment
to find

. . .

far from this beginning ~

had i waited
this
a moment more
than twilight turning red
had i listened
as night birds
drew their sighs
had i known
that heaven makes a place
near enough to breathe
to understand
the depths
where love can be
had i traded
every sorrow
when my grief was newly formed
had i bled of tears
a canyon of restraint
had i known before
you would come
to save of me the best
so far from
this beginning
would i wait

. . .

the way love works ~

life, love, patience, promise, redemption, reminders why we came, time, truth

was never my intent
to carry all this grief –
to bend beneath the load
of circumstance
hastened by the notion
my heart would never mend
would squander
every breath –
if given chance

such foolishness
I should have seen –
surely learned by now
the way love is
the way love works
to give
as we allow

but I won’t lie
I can’t pretend
there hasn’t been some pain –
learning as it were
to live again

haunted by a promise
whispered long ago
within the dark
an ember of the sun
is wrapped in sweet reminders
lest my soul forget
beyond this night –
another day will come

. . .

safe within the arms of home ~

belonging, home, life, love, patience, the way, time, trust, truth

I’ve not the heart
to wager –
or strength for compromise
no easy path
to places we belong
stay with me
lay with me
ferry me the night
til I am safe
within the arms
of home
wrapped in sheets
of ivory –
saved for just this once
to wake
beyond the dream
we waited on

. . .

heart to hand ~

forgiveness, life, love, memory, patience, resurrection, seasons, skies, spirit, time, truth, understanding

foralways

across
and through
each one beginning
as velvet lines
to tempt the sky
as pause was come
for comprehending
– where my wisdom
waited now

have you life
or have you pardon
to give of me
the same
sweet ways
as breath became
our will for sharing
of lifetimes more
than choice to stay

I’ve followed you
tho not so close –
and left no signs
to understand
altered proof of my existence
as lines were crossed
of heart
to hand

. . .

the ways of love ~

beneath the maples, colors, home, life, love, patience, time, truth, what matters most

walkinghometoday

more to me
than yellow leaves
a kiss beneath a whistle
count the stars
to speak of me
somehow

reminded of another
life –
the ancient ones recall
colors left of living
faded now

if e’er the time
for turning home –
was cool beneath my feet
the ways of love
I’ve come
to know them well

silence lures
with tender tongue
so sweet
the lover’s cry
dying holds a story
few can tell

for every chance
another took –
nights of consequence
and there
beyond the vapor
fires burn

to fell the barn
where winter wheat
is stacked
the same as letters
taken breath
another love to learn

. . .

between collisions ~

after_the_curtain_by_ifsantag-d3lpao1

once
between collisions
we dared to trace the stars
and cursed aloud
for years the passing on
wishes burnt to cinder
aren’t all to matter now
how much we dreamed
remains a distant light
beyond the shift
where shadows hide –
I worry for you there
will you still hold
my secrets –
the flame
that warms my soul
