i want a white dress
a red painted wagon
a tractor i can’t drive
but i can watch
you from the window
of a dream
no one noticed
growing from weeds
constellations
in your eyes
i want a sunset
tennessee
or alabama
it don’t matter
to the roads
that brought us home
i want a white dress
a red painted wagon
a tractor
i can’t drive
but i can watch
you from the window
of a dream

moments fold
on one another
years succumb to getting on
– love remains
the only truth we know
when looking back
is nothing
but a waste of time
we hold
a flash of blue
before a crimson glow
as evening met
with darkness –
arms to reach around
a poem not yet
written
to my soul

dream, love, moments, sometimes

before my lips
remember
how it was to speak
your name
a bluebird sky
has gathered up
my heart
a pause
to still my longing
would not a word suffice
a blanket pulled
around me
from
the dark

dream, eternity, life, love, still, the edge of forever, time

lest we worry
love will matter
when ten thousand years
are gone
when all our hopes
are scattered
as dark before the dawn
tender places
we are saving –
in each others arms
to stay
chasing whispers of forever –
when the world has
passed away
let me tarry
with the sunrise
close your eyes and sleep again
there’s a dream
that shares your story –
I’ll be there
to let you in

age, dream, home, life, love, my house, pieces of me, returning to a home we never left, spirit memory, story, time

what share would I give
of a life fully lived
another life to recall
arms reaching out
from the shadows –
words cut short
by the fall

a house settled back
on the edge of a wood
smoke in the air
in my eyes
steps from my watch
at the window –
dawns a familiar
sunrise

would e’er creation
remember me whole
to places I loved long ago
memories tease
at the edge of my reaching
of something
I already know

Author’s Note: Of those who know me well, a few know me better. They know of the house that has been a part of my dreams since I was a child. As of late, they come less frequent (I have a theory on that) but still. I’ve never been there, and yet I know it, and could find it if chance put me within a mile or two. I know the steps from the porch to the fence, the soft old rose print of wallpaper in the smallest bedroom, the way the wind howls through the trees at night. A dear friend who I shared my stories with once commented that she and I should take a trip in search of ‘the house’. “I’m sure it’s near here, and we could find out who actually lives there.” I froze. She didn’t understand at all. “I live there.”

In another life. I am in the kitchen as morning climbs the steps.  I dance beneath a faded bulb, and worry not for sleepless nights in which I am lost (I am found).  I love.

But in this life, in those moments that reach my soul, I pause. I place my hand against a window, upon someone’s heart. I close my eyes (a snapshot) and whisper “remember this”. ❤

forgotten

would these few
these hours sweet
deny the years between
– adrift upon eternity
waiting on a
dream

would this day
be burdened –
when filled with all I know
suffered thru the coming back

– another time
to go

would these words
be truth enough
to reach beyond all I hold dear –
written as a verse
to keep you near

would the dawn
approach from some great distance
to become
the first I knew
to love you –

have I loved you
all along

what place do I keep
in your memory –
what corner mine
of your heart
are there windows there
overlooking your life
– a garden
we dreamed
in the night

do you wonder sometimes
to the way we became –
paths never journeyed before
– how the warmth
of your hand
seem fitted for mine
as love seeking reason
for more

are there days
recollected –
with sun in your eyes
light through a window
where shadows
became
the difference in living
as silence recalls –
a memory tethered
by name

from this road
onto another
how we bend
how we lean
into a path so unfamiliar –
through the wooded
woods again

I can’t pretend
to know the reasons
why and where
the way becomes
a place we stood
some distant season
making plans
of a sweet unknown

giving heart
our soul’s permission
to write in verses
yet unseen
carving time into a promise
– to find again
the place
we dreamed

of an ancient tide
I pulled you from the sea
on winter sands
we laid our plans –
before the moon denied
the sweet embrace
of storm to lace
remember
do you feel
the lure of waters
wading
back into the deep
where once you found me
drowning
near shores you dared
to dream

of strangers
I’ve forgotten –
breath against my skin
the velvet crush
of whiskey as my name

implied
the way
the path would give
and nights you’d call again
across the miles
a gentle
whispering –

offered one more
every time
gather me to home
where I began
to clear the slate
of those who loved
me long

voices without memory
of time
