choice, do you remember, ghosts, it's what I do, life, love, memory, need, poetry, silence, sometimes, time, when I close my eyes, whispers

in the mellow
afternoon
where you sit
the day alone
fumbling with your papers
with your keys
images replay
every time you close
your eyes
she waits you know
in dreams
whene’er you sleep
just beyond
the memory
of just beyond the trees
music plays
how much louder must
it be
to obscure the loss
erase the cost
how much
before you answer
the silence
of your need

. . .

rush to silence ~

daylight
sends a shiver
down my spine –
before I heed the wanting –
to resurrect a dream
twilight
wakes a longing –
where my heart has disappeared
and I am left to grieve
for times
between

I want to
understand –
how it is
you found me here
as paper birds
imagined into flight
as breezes blew
seedlings of a life
before I lived
moments rush to silence
the name you took
last night

. . .

soft
your voice
upon my skin –
your stories in my ear
tell me
tell me everything
– all that you
hold dear

love
and I will let you –
will me not
to go
stay a while
stay a lifetime
let love be all
you know

heavenhome

where and when
the stars resigned
to line us up this way
would find us near
beginning
at the first –
some other day

you knew me then
know me now
for lifetimes yet to claim –
for yesterdays
so far away
from all we’ve come
to name

trust
and who will take it
without want to understand
roads I once imagined
you remain
more than verse
can memory give –
surrendered
to the place
we’ve come again

. . .

in the breath before beginning ~

cometome

I knew you
in the nothing –
in the breath before beginning
where living turned to shadow
to speak of other truths

I knew you
as a whisper –
fell while I was sleeping
a gathering of clouds
against the blue

I knew you
as a wishing –
a star by heaven tethered
a blanket neath a canopy
of dew

I knew you
as a night bird
come to me in slumber
a messenger of promise –
an evermore
come due

. . .

the leaving edge of always ~

justtoday

morning shakes my courage
as evening wears me down
tho scarce the times
allowed my heart concede
to something I was chasing
living just beyond
the leaving edge of always –
sanctity I need

when broken I am nestled
into arms resolved to heal
a faraway
where strangers passed before –
a ghostly understanding
bears the echo of a sigh
sheets still warm
with telling –
as am I

sunrise (2)
remember me
the sunset
pressed into the plain
as shadow
where the mountains
meet the sea

remember me
a field of lace
where once you lay
me down
beneath a sky
of ancient whisperings

remember me
an always
we dared to reminisce
of one more one day
a star to wish
upon

remember me
the twilight ~
I fell into your eyes
raptured by a
fleeting glimpse
of home

duck river

how is it now
the past is come
scattered by the wind
hardened crumbs
were once a croissant
dreams we shared
with ne’er a thought
of sunset o’er the break
darkness settled deep
into our bones
houses kept apart
from joy
bliss we dared believe
the dawn would press
warmth to sleepy eyes
assurance of remember me
lest nothing else make sense
heaven held to shadows –
dusted yesterdays

home

when I have gone
the way of stars
across an ancient sky
slid between
the branches – whispering
a name
held sweet
by one or two –
a page already turned
who will know
of words
to understand

were never
meant
for rhyming –
decided by the night
woke me up
when dead the hours passed
relearning
every passion –
a time and place for all
for us
it seems of one
there never was

were ever
this unknowing
be given up again
or I –
a secret carried by the wind
to lands
beyond the call of feet
where cold
the floor is laid
ghosts are camped
in silence –
wondering

. . .

dragonflies ~

pressing

I’ve found my joy
in pieces –
once again
the same as I
as years and miles
– eternities begun
as silent prose
so rarely known
fit with words and painted
sherbet melon skies
around the sun

were poets
but a name
we gave
to those with dare
for dreaming –
dragonflies
and there I pass alone
swept in counted linen
falling to and fro
crooked boards
with want
to plead
my soul

wonder
banks the tallest pine
with whispers
of regret
prophets warn
of moments got away
before the wake
of just how much
we’d give to come again
night birds chasing
memory
into day
