the truth
is written somewhere
tucked amid the rhyme
memories –
watered down by time

the ease
of barely touching
skin erasing skin –
a tender kiss
remembers me
again

whatever this surrender
tis a life
I put behind –
purple fields
and poetry
swimming in your eyes

sometimes
I wake
within a dream
within the dream we made –
searching in the dark
to find a page

were not for words
would you remember me here
fashioned in lines
of surrender

would you know
how it feels
when sunlight is burned
and curtains fall
from my windows

I see you
I know you –
how sweet this refrain
of birth without knowing
how far
I have come

from a day like no other
splinters of light
are pooled into places
we carry the same

moments
I dare not to speak

when comes the day
might be the last
of all the times between
wherever stars align
as fate revealed
when mellow
seems to be
the only way I know
to be…
when lonely wakes
to find the bed
is gone

when every plate is broken
and all my pages
bare
when light
that filled the porch
has worn away
to meld again with shadow
of a time before I knew
a day beyond our last
would come
to claim the rest
of you

there’s an hurt
beneath my spine
a tiny spot of grief
a shadow of remorse to most unseen
curves against my leaving
til I can barely stand –
a part of you
I’ve not the heart to glean

was there a time
decided –
a lot I chose to take
a card misplayed
lines from north to south
written to the margins
there for all to see
how I love
and how I live without

folded into verses
wherever ink is spilled
my will is bent
all my fingers ache
bruises indigo
are evidence of truth
ego sleeps –
tho my heart
is wide awake

I shall tender
these moments –
as cedar carved to pen
as ached beneath the threat
an evening flame
I shall cleave your name
from everything –
shall find you everywhere
a part of me
ten thousand more
than claimed

I shall wait the dusk
to falter –
rings of smoke to dissipate
evidence of story
you were here
and I
a moment fell into
a smudge between the lines
take me now
I’ve nothing left
to fear

there’s truth
we scarce consider –
and one we dare not speak
a normal found
in courage lost –
a darkness not so deep

I’ve kept my word
in seeking –
for a path I knew before
hearts undone
by telling –
a truth I waited for

sometimes
the dream falls open –
as I wander with the night
beyond the risk of losing –
to a place of love
and light

when tempted I
by sorrows
for every hurt embraced –
moments of surrender
turn my wanting
into grace

how is it
you can break my heart
and before I chance to mend
you come around
to break my heart again

you’ve memorized my
fault lines
with weapons still the same –
your eyes meet mine
and then you speak
my name

I’ve forgotten
how it was to heal
don’t care to ever know
the ease of loss
is nothing
if I never see you go

I’ll move the bed
to face the dawn –
I’ll rearrange the room
further from your leaving –
hidden to the moon
