i’ve no plea
save one more dream
e’er you slept –
was i the star
that made of all
your wishes true –
that found you
here
remember

i’ve no fear –
my everything
is grounded in your
loving arms
the way my ache
became your lips –
as ageless once
this selfless
kiss

i’ve no words
no means to speak
of days before
or years to be
forgiven now
as we begin
the road to build
of memories

til I’ve forgotten
how to breathe –
let this be my one
reserve of truth
the last I knew
another way would come
a shallow breath
neglected –
forsaking all for this
e’en now my heart
is sated
by my name
upon your lips
sassafras and berry
vines to draw me near
frozen creeks
fields of winter hay
morning waits
whatever dreams
are mine to understand
wherever you –
I will find a way

once I prayed
my gypsy ways
would find me in a tent
sweating rhyme-
civility betrayed
swirling madly
laughter bending
with every pulse of light
magic come to steal
my breath
away

fortunes writ
in charcoal –
signed my fate somewhere
gathered up my leaving
blew away
to find you there
dancing neath the timbers
a gypsy firefly
willing me
your company –
as wings recalled
to flight

this scar
defies surrender
a place I met your eyes
across a sea –
nameless
battlefields
with hurts the same
to hurt me now
moments buried
deep –
for every kiss
some other has grown cold
awaiting us another
would clear a life beyond
ending not
as truth we dared
become
this scar
it won’t forgive
the taste of bitter smoke
a war
I’ve not forgotten
took my heart
and claimed
your soul

what feelings
will tomorrow bear
when I return to dust –
the path we wandered
helplessly –
hands becoming one
will someone seek
the answers –
as tender years unfold
will verses speak
to lovers
seeking solace
from this load
with time so short
sometimes unfair –
grant me this goodbye
that I might memorize
the ways we came
grant me nothing more
than one more kiss –
a final breath
made sweeter by
your name

tucked amid the rhyme

the ease
of barely touching
skin erasing skin –
a tender kiss
remembers me
again

whatever this surrender
tis a life
I put behind –
purple fields
and poetry
swimming in your eyes

sometimes
I wake
within a dream
within the dream we made –
searching in the dark
to find a page

a simple life
is all I ask –
a leaning barn
on a strip of land
was once my fathers will
for mine
riches for the keeping

could never want
for more than this
save for one
your morning kiss
save for one
as hope allows –
to be the one
you dream about

a broken fence
a weathered porch
life beyond
the reach of wars
beyond the lights
that grieve our stars
and curse the moon
for rising
