give my path
a weight of sand
words
the grace of birds
anchored by a dreamer
ten thousand songs
unheard
carry me
where rivers grieve
moments not yet lost
give my heart
a boundless sea
desperate to cross

when bells
are nearly broken
tho chords
are hanging still
when the choir
folds together
with their silks
when hymns are dashed
as silence earned
banging on
our knees
sore and bruised
the busted
falling down
when truth
we swore would save us
becomes the last
we seek
as walls to spy
flame is all
we breathe
curses pulled
around us
pleas for something
more
to ease the ache
of missing –
to find
what we came for

always on my way, courage, days, distance, home, journey, life, love, miles, pilgrimage, stars, truth, witness, worth

what longing
might I best defend
as distance
unsubstantial
winding roads
lines across between
rivers
here I left my tears
forests I surrendered
a mile or two
beyond this best I know
time has folded over
the map that is my heart
til nothing
short of silence
feels the same
garnered by permission
to go
as once I came
before the dawn
an ageless earth –
endless virgin seas
countless intersections
stars to see me home
memories
to grace the days
between

the clouds
have meshed into
the one
to smoke a midday dark
forgotten how it felt
to melt
forgotten how to rain
as destiny
each world recalled
another us
by name
as heaven willed
as fate concurred –
to keep the whole apart
a parallel
suffice to bring us here
failing each remembrance
now the moon is blue
rewritten how
the waves were pulled
to make of us
anew

were there signs
we failed to notice
edges faded gray
words we lost in speaking
as hearts for others
paid
other lives
we left forsaking
what might be our last goodbye
what might wait
beyond the sunset
coral wings
against the night
without fault
without remembrance
lest our days be counted less
than a moment
life was traded –
soul for soul
breath for breath
were there signs
we gave each other
memory carved into the soul
touching places
we were lovers –
coming home
and letting go
. . .

had I more
than stars for wishing
years of standing still
the memory
of falling to the sea
where I slept
within a sunrise
as ten thousand came before
swimming in your eyes
rescue me
had I will
to run or follow –
a step or two behind
beyond the pull
of destiny or sky
tempted by a promise
truth would see me home
lest I wander with
this mystery
called life
had I courage
for surrender –
death to stave again
carried up as leaves
to lay me down
had I faith
to live another life
were this my only plea
come to me
with arms
to wrap around
. . .

all I know, all we've known to love, find me, life, memory, still, truth

i have no say
in destinies
chance another wrought
no proof
you held my hand
or kissed my lips
as lifetimes felt
beneath your touch
eternities denied
as breath where words
are tangled
love persists
a page or two
folded now
held against my breast
tethered to a moment
we remain
beyond the hold
of circumstance
within the reach
of dreams
a sigh to wear
the memory
of your name
i have no say
in destinies
chance another wrought
no proof
you held my hand
or kissed my lips
. . .

when hearths
are warmed
by who we are
beyond the wait
where lanterns sway
beneath an ancient dark
evermore to waste
as time
we could not give
locks already failed
secrets bound together
by the ways
of which we came
had you known
of truths I carried –
a chair beside my bed
a hope
already seated
with my soul
leaving yet to suffer
memory to fill
save for me
a place you love
to love
. . .

what of this
was ever mine –
in living I laid claim
when ages pass
and tears are dried
who will know
my name
how long before
my voice is fade
and every word denied
would that this verse
be written o’er
or washed beneath
the tide
how long have I
a day
a year –
whatever grace allows
to keep what I
am keeping –
names I speak aloud
so many now
the gates are loosed –
tis not for me to know
of dreams beyond
this dreaming –
places still
to go

I’ve not the strength
to question
or the will
to quite let go ~
patience of a sinner
or a saint
without the faith
for moving
not much
stands in my way
just a trust
to know
tomorrow
won’t be the same
