always on my way, courage, days, distance, home, journey, life, love, miles, pilgrimage, stars, truth, witness, worth

what longing
might I best defend
as distance
unsubstantial
winding roads
lines across between
rivers
here I left my tears
forests I surrendered
a mile or two
beyond this best I know
time has folded over
the map that is my heart
til nothing
short of silence
feels the same
garnered by permission
to go
as once I came
before the dawn
an ageless earth –
endless virgin seas
countless intersections
stars to see me home
memories
to grace the days
between

when my days are swept
golden –
into all I have left
when moments
are counted for more

I shall look at these hands
and remember the ways
they warmed to your longing
as never before

when my ears have misplaced
the sound of your voice –
a melody penned
long ago

as my eyes
fill with tears –
once reflected by yours
ocean deep pools
of your soul

tho my arms be denied
the reaching around –
I will rest in the memory
of bliss

when my tongue has forgotten
the taste of your name
my lips will remember
your kiss

once were words ~

beyond the first
of lifetimes spent –
spread beneath the cedars
a scratch defies the hour
we were born
for what becomes
of moments held above
the worth of others –
a touch
to free the night
we waited on

hold my name
upon your tongue –
as memory of taste
tie it to a story
none can tell
as well as you –
tho time has eased
into another morning –
where once were words
twas there
I loved you well

lock

I’ll tell the story
with words
you once knew –
of the ways I have journeyed
on my way
back to you

I’ll tell
of secrets
we shared with the stars –
of lonely surrendered
one night
to the dark

I’ll gift
my portion
tho words won’t explain
of moments so tender –
tis there
we remain

I’ll tell the story
tho my prayer
then will be –
that when I have finished
you’ll tell it
to me

yesterhere

dare we worry
the darkness coming
– or tears
we’re bound to leave
a sorrow not yet given –
tis a blessing
I believe

a barter made
for living –
will grieve our losses
soon enough

with silence
meant for breaking –
were not for love

let us take our fill
of passion
and toast the days
til when –
we meet beyond the taking
in the place
where love began

. . .

became the light ~

sigh

across a strand
of gypsy sky –
back the way to wander
silver specs
remembered just one star
and distant nights
of ancient faith
men and cattle lowing
wondered at the light
became the light

miles and miles
within the truth
to find a baby waiting
forgiven not the witness
of a king
lowly as the meek would lay
held as love to promise
one day more than ever would
reasons to betray

a savior born
one winter morn
the first of all worth waiting
was innocence prepared
our hearts to see
one was come
the rest to know
the worst to pay for dying

silver spec
to glisten there
first gift of love
bestowed

. . .

Author’s Note: Now and then, things happen when
we least expect them – a four-leaf clover nestled with another one,
the trust of a hand wrapped with ours, love returning us to a home we
never left.  Sometimes, little miracles become words.

Sometimes, it’s as easy as a light through a morning fog.

Who cares that it’s not quite Christmas…

hands

these hands
remember everything
e’en when my brain resigns
the memory of gift –
of skin
beholding skin
all that I’ve known
loved and more
blessed
and blessed again

let not my wealth
become my prize –
tis less than I perceive
awaits my willing soul
some other dawn

take from me
take everything –
but what my hands recall
let that remain
to comfort me
the sweetest gift
of all

. . .

“We’re raising the bar on generosity, reminding ourselves
to hold our possessions lightly and open-handedly. The challenge
is to give away something that is precious to you, either in
value or significance, being willing to surrender it for someone
else’s benefit.”  In doing so, we echo the lessons
of ten thousand kings – ‘everything comes from you’ ❤

curtain

in darkness
I fumble
reaching for the dream
that will pull me
home
prisms of stardust
sweep downward
through the cavernous falling
as all I am leaving behind
without sorrow
disappears

leftfromhere

I will
indulge in fits of madness
sign my name
to sacred scrolls –
never once resolve my longing
to a slate of normal
rules

I will
sit the night in silence
just beyond the reach of voice
I’ll sing
while others chatter –
far too long
on foolish choice

I will
pray tho no one listens
shedding skin
that none can see –
come awake
in shades of honey
daffodil
and evergreen

once
between collisions
we dared to trace the stars
and cursed aloud
for years the passing on
wishes burnt to cinder
aren’t all to matter now
how much we dreamed
remains a distant light
beyond the shift
where shadows hide –
I worry for you there
will you still hold
my secrets –
the flame
that warms my soul
