dreaming

I’ve not the strength
to question
or the will
to quite let go ~
patience of a sinner
or a saint
without the faith
for moving
not much
stands in my way
just a trust
to know
tomorrow
won’t be the same

beyond the night, birth, death, heaven, home, life, love, spirit, time, when I've forgotten you, without end

tis not for death
to ease this ache –
or steal from life this grace
no darkness could contain
the way love is

tis not for earth
a pound of stone –
a place to lay me down
cold beyond the memory
of your kiss

was not for solace
a soul returned –
come to bring me home
no heaven I remember
more than this

. . .

rivers of stone ~

i have come
to this silence
where nothing exists
no need for name
the squander
of verse
i have come
without tears
or passion renewed
a vow
without lines
to rehearse
i have come
on my knees –
broken and bare
averting my gaze
from the flame of your eyes
arms wrapped around
hold me in place
as tempted am I
for a moment
to fly
agate and rust
canyons of clay –
echoes writ
to rivers of stone
as memory
rains from the sky

age, another time, heart, home, in another life, love, memory, parallel lives, presence, spirit, time, truth, what we keep

in another life
the coffee can wait
time is forgotten
as whiskers
memorize my skin
but I’ll not complain
for fear of less
the wait
to drift between
fragile as these worlds
of might have been

in another life
kids are laughing
you are laughing too
a smile invades your eyes
as I concede
hands reach out
across the day –
a distance not so far
a touch
as I’m reminded
not to leave

in another life
years are past
and still you hold my hand
echoes of a lifetime
nearly gone
folded into letters
tucked against
my heart –
souls are faded
nearly into one

in another life
water falls
blue into the light
my feet are bare
the river cold
as cedars rise above
songbirds sit on branches
familiar as their songs –
silence waits
the welcome of your
love

breath, come to me, life, love, memory, nature, season, spirit, the way to home, time, truth

come to me
one more time
with scarlet suns and meadows blue
places fair
I move between
as every path returns to you

with questions why
tho who can say –
what remains
of what shall be
familiar song I sang for you
as empty arms
remembered me

shall I return
(you know I will)
as sure the orchids fade to gray
along the wood
where once we loved –
longing bears the rest
away

for my touch
another pined –
another held my name
tore my fences down
to find the gate
who are you
really
a why I can’t explain –
lifetimes gone
before
a fleeting grace
tho not so much
not so many
babies
brothers
branches
bluebells bursting glory
mercies
gathered whole
remembered me
when I could hardly stand
let them stain
if you remain
let them ta me
home

age is suited
perfectly
to take the last of me –
a willing breath
wreaks of summertime
memories of all
everything
I came to find
pieces stitched together
let undone
who will notice
who will claim
mercies more than doubt
of days before
the end was known –
places dreamed about
who shall mourn
as nights grow long –
the pastures dressed
in snow
who will speak my name
aloud –
when the ground is
hard and cold

would that I
this moment trade
for lives I’ve yet to know
exchanging fate
for one more ache
than e’er my birth foretold
as lines were crossed
and lines erased –
before
the same was met
fishers where the heart
was sworn to be
warmth where light
became of love –
my favorite
destiny

as easy as breathing, discovery, life, love, memory, mystery, nature, seasons, sigh, spirit, time, youth

do you remember me
a lily
tall beneath the pines
the scent of easter sundays
long ago
a push where you
were not so used to being
lest I stay –
a path beyond the only place
we know

do you remember
how you loved me –
how i love you still
despite the tides
the rise of ancient winds
do you remember
how it was
with nothing to compare
lifetimes gone –
and I am there
again

a place apart
where living stalled
eternity
a sigh
I found you
as you found me –
as breath
beneath the pines

. . .

I was gone ~

belonging, dreaming awake, love the only truth, magic, mystery, seeing in the dark, spirit, time, wisdom, witness, wonder

I went looking
for the verses
before they searched
for me –
miles beneath
a canopy of stars
pushed along
when everything was
telling me to go
sometimes the morning came
and I was gone
I’ve watched
the way unravel
and stitched it back
in place
told myself some lies
to get me on
etched a map of evermore
and covered it
with skin
sold myself
sold the world
for one more time
begin
I’m not so young
as I was then
save for memories
traded on a future –
none could own
none could see
as poems prayed –
eyes were closed
to everything but us
I felt my heart the most
within your love
