who will grieve
my going
who will make the bed –
or worry for a season
to things I should
have said
who will speak
my name aloud –
o’er rivers deep and cold
in places not yet written
to my soul
with promise cleft
by secrets sworn
beneath a jealous moon –
when first I died
ten thousand deaths
for you
who will weep
who will pray –
for moments almost come
for sunlight
where the night has been
for stars who mourn
alone

blessing, easy, grace, home, it's what I do, life, love, nature, smile, something here, the way, truth, without words
how many times
I’ve cursed
the slamming of the door
a backward glance
with nothing more to say
I’ve left my fears behind me
praying you might find me
some other time
you’d steal my breath
away
stay
that I might learn you
from all the things
you love
– the way you feel
the way you laugh –
the way you speak my name
sometimes I can’t but wonder
of another life
we made
morning spreads
her golden wings
as I lean upon the gate –
anchored to a life so undefined
tho not for this you tarry
something here won’t wait –
I love your smile
as sunlight
through the pines

sometimes
a whole day passes
and I am left the same –
no less than words would bury
a shadow of me remains
some nights
I fear the crying
of night birds on the rise –
thought is splintered into rhyme
and I dare not close
my eyes
sometimes
I wake beyond the dream
where there’s no proof of us –
no morning I might trade again
for the memory
of your touch
it’s not the same
we’re not the same
as once we were a longing filled
it seems my mind has forgotten –
what my soul
remembers still
. . .

as twilight burns
and dreams are come
from not so far
away
for every truth I left
behind –
another with me
stays
stars that never falter
shimmer silver grey
tho not surprised
as I remember
eyes that warmed
the same
I’ve moved along
from places dear –
but stay with me
somehow
in dreams
the weight of slumber
is split by friendly
swords

longing
paints a picture
with colors still I bleed
crimson red raspberry
melon sweet
harbingers
of stories rent
lessons yet to learn
lives are reconstructed
over tea
promise
I was sworn to keep
with words
forgotten now
whispers of a truth
I put away
are breathed anew each morning
and folded into rhyme –
evermore to spend
another day
moments
gather silent
in dust beneath my bed
circles to the table
souvenirs
of seasons
unremembered
before I knew your name –
lives I traded
just to find you here
. . .

yesterday
I wrote your name
in shades of winter blue
curled against the margin
of a page
evening come
to claim my days –
but worried not the heart
and more than once
the ink was pressed –
to wonder
why you came
a question
left unanswered –
as dreaming fell to night
mesmerized by places
lifetimes gone
stars I know
they sparkle there –
brush the same dark sky
flickers falling
all these miles
from home
. . .

I remember well
the girl you loved –
a whisper barely spoke
walked a wooded path
from heart to home
waiting for an echo
the name
you gave to breath –
was all the same
all I’ve come
to know
that girl
she carried heaven
pretending she was wise –
known for trapping wishes
in a jar
looping letters
one on top –
a name converged with yours
how many times
we married
one night
beneath the stars
