get me ~

get me to singing
like some old guitar
a bit of boards straining
for tune –
the one you played
remember that time –
chords and crescendos
of me wanting you

get me
to forever
we swore there would be
feather beds
wrapped
with cotton sheets
long nights passed
with but a whisper between –
summer smiles
and kisses –
an old porch swing

get me
to sunrise
without worry for sleep –
questions
for all this love means
move me
to make you –
these lips to beg you
stay
silent reminders
to breathe

another life, ashes, death, dust, home, life, love, memory, soul, spirit, time

when the dust
is all but settled –
and ashes have turned blue
where’re the rivers rise
I’ll come for you
before the stars are taken
before the dawn is crest
when mountains turn their faces
on the sea
one word
my heart will carry
one flame into the dark
where souls await
a coming back for more
I shall tarry
with that sweetness
with not a want for breath
e’er another life
erase your
memory

all that matters ~

til I am faded
into pitch –
the memory of touch
almost erased
with no one to remember
why it was
or what it meant
how deep the soul’s
surrender
to something deeper still
written to the places
love has been

I’ve made my peace
had my say
with verses
o’er the years –
tempted fate more times
than were confessed
borrowed
from the ledger
of tomorrows left to spare
gave my love at times
for something less

a name
almost forsaken
awakes from tired dreams
to warm against
the heart –
with all that matters
a silent recollection
of days
beyond our count
and nights
we waited long
the morning after

along the way
Christmas twinkles
in strings of red and green
starlight scattered
softly o’er the snow
and in the face
where once the moon
remembered why we came
angels tip their
golden wings
below

silence spills
o holy night
and I am lost for words
to ease the ache
I find in everything
days my heart has worried
are taken back again
by One who waits
the evening bell
to ring

becoming, blessing, echoes beneath my skin, grace, knowing, life, love, memory, mystery, silence, time, translation, truth, understanding

tho I can’t swear
to each remembrance –
to what is truth
and what is mine
longing whispered into shadow –
became a prayer
of love resigned

I can’t say
of wonder started –
how much more the heart
can feel
of destinies
recorded –
burden wished
from moments here

I’ve no proof
beyond this silence –
which flutters soft within my ear
what remains
of truths unspoken –
promise
I alone
can hear

fell together ~

breath, fate, history, let me, morning, remembering, seasons, stars, story, time, truth

we fell together
one night in march
when winds still warned
of an aching heart
you went home
and I pretending
of another day
we’d fall again

last night I slept
in a field of sand –
eighteen miles
of forgotten land
married you somewhere
in between
our first goodbye
and a place of dreams

you made plans
of a life beyond
the getting over –
the getting on
I sewed stars
from last night’s sleep
never worried long
for one to keep
faceless names
and ageless babies –
years between
the time we made
beneath the dark
of winter sky
another day
one more goodbye

one more hello
and a field remembers
seeds put down
one late September
for every dawn
there’s another sun
never meant to cheat
the road we’re on

faceless names
and ageless babies –
years between
the time we made
you make breakfast
and I’ll sleep in –
wrapped in stories
we fall again

. . .

a road beyond remember ~

for a moment
here
I shall reminisce
on the taste of words
unspoken
whispered into memory
by your lips
arms to gather
verses spilled
a road beyond
remember –
how sweet
a lifetime given
with your kiss

. . .

everything I keep ~

all I really know, becoming, life, love, memory, season, time, truth, what we keep

was not for me
yet all for me
the first
my last amen
names
so long forsaken
rise again

as psalms
before a jubilee
as rites to ashes fall
surrendered now
as pardon
unto grace

in moments
left for living –
of blessings yet to reap
as winters fall
to memory
of everything
I keep

. . .

who will grieve
my going
who will make the bed –
or worry for a season
to things I should
have said

who will speak
my name aloud –
o’er rivers deep and cold
in places not yet written
to my soul

with promise cleft
by secrets sworn
beneath a jealous moon –
when first I died
ten thousand deaths
for you

who will weep
who will pray –
for moments almost come
for sunlight
where the night has been
for stars who mourn
alone

. . .

the weight of slumber ~

as twilight burns
and dreams are come
from not so far
away
for every truth I left
behind –
another with me
stays

stars that never falter
shimmer silver grey
tho not surprised
as I remember
eyes that warmed
the same

I’ve moved along
from places dear –
but stay with me
somehow
in dreams
the weight of slumber
is split by friendly
swords
