I will wait
til time is nothing
save for lies we left behind
and every road
a moment stretched between
the hesitant beginning
from a start we dared conceive
a flower resurrected
by the seed
I will wait
til rings are counted
by those denied our names
fashioned as a breath
into a sigh
I will wait
the fall of everything
every dream to living lost
as trees we planted
yesterday
push beyond the sky

retrospect
leaves longing
dying in the dust
waiting for a drink
of sunday morn
the taste of everafter
will singe the devil’s tongue –
with want for life
we pressed against –
the hope for
things undone
there are no words
I’ve tried them all –
and made a few my own
folded verses
into maps –
so sure they’d take me
home
of ways
the heart remembers –
a name among the scars
how could we want
for heaven –
and still not see
the stars

fell together ~

we fell together
one night in march
when winds still warned
of an aching heart
you went home
and I pretending
of another day
we’d fall again

last night I slept
in a field of sand –
eighteen miles
of forgotten land
married you somewhere
in between
our first goodbye
and a place of dreams

you made plans
of a life beyond
the getting over –
the getting on
I sewed stars
from last night’s sleep
never worried long
for one to keep
faceless names
and ageless babies –
years between
the time we made
beneath the dark
of winter sky
another day
one more goodbye

one more hello
and a field remembers
seeds put down
one late September
for every dawn
there’s another sun
never meant to cheat
the road we’re on

faceless names
and ageless babies –
years between
the time we made
you make breakfast
and I’ll sleep in –
wrapped in stories
we fall again

homeremembersme2

is a part of me
forsaken
when my name
no longer sounds –
when photographs
are scattered
to the wind

when dates
are worn to nothing –
but a mark upon the stone
when the burden
of remembrance –
fails to mend

will there be the one
who wonders still
to places I was loved –
to find my words
a whisper saved

will there I love
again

pressure

ten thousand years
a broken heart
pressed beneath the stone
moments pass unnoticed
as hands upon the plow
dirty feet
claim the path alone
seedlings of some other
time we loved before
a forest grows
roots caressing bone

sigh

I wonder
were there rhapsodies
ten thousand years before –
voices meant to carry
across a canyon floor
were there strings
before the bow could sing
an older violin
did dancers sway
in firelight
before the dance began

before the words
came willing
were there whispers
all along –
thought already yielded
unto song

before the books
were written
did lovers understand
the promise held
within another’s hand
the crush of
two hearts beating
as shadows gathered round
a sweeter song
unfolding
without sound

did they know
before the knowing
before their first goodbye
did music stream
unnoticed
like stars
above the night

as violins
of welcome in
were played
then played again
as tender sighs
fell silently
to skin

. . .

somewhereI

here
was all
before I knew
before my first
beginning
light was poured
from heart
to boot
hopeful
never ending
broken stones
with one more step
to get from
this
return
sheltered by
the shadow of your sighs
whispers fell
from wishes cast
stars
no longer shine
dreamers wake
to love anew –
one more
every
time

instrumental

the rain has come
atlantis
where are you gone
what legions knew
yet turned
your will away
separated
now again –
by miles
and men and more
yet still when nights
are cold –
I hear you pray

wherein the sin
you might have been
kept your lies
beneath
covers even now
the longer bed
an orchestrated
guillotine
sanctified by fire
broken hearts
around your skirt
are spread

o tell me
once again as I
this restlessness betray
to know the truth
was ever yours
to tell
ashes float
a solemn rift
voices rise beyond
spirits speak
of sorrows –
weaved into the veil
