grace, introspection, life, loss, love, nature, rambling, reflection, sometimes, still, that thing I do, time
of riches
I have nothing
but the memory of love
gathered close as breath
near as touch
the soul remembers
lest I faint
was lost
tho I am not
faith has kept me
tethered to the trees
drifting
on an evening gale
life restored
as choice to be
held within a promise –
a seeker sure to see
the world is changing
as am I
as e’er were we
to start
racing toward forever
not a breath apart
as certain grace
a holy place
reserved
of none I own
a tender prayer
is whispered there
faraway
is here
and I can’t tell the difference
between love
and letting go
let the truth
in living
fold around
the memory of where
I’ll be
some wiser sun
will pull me from the branches
trailing winds
where once
I was set free

it’s my fated returning
of bark unto vine –
where cedars embrace the maple
lucious blackberry
and muscadine blue
are weaved together a rhyme
no sweeter could be
of places not far
miracles hid in plain view
sworn as allegiance
our wonders to bring –
holy most holy
of all we are due
washed by the rivers
of stormclouds to spring –
rush me til breath falls away
stand with me currents
made dear by returning
cypress and hickory
sunlight and shade
lie with me now –
in words without meaning
or mention by name
til less they might be
taste of these tears
as seasons
pass over – one
love becoming
a forever I knew
. . .

in the swell of the tide
a breath before rising –
in the roll of the sands
neath the shore
I’ve noticed the rivers
run deeper than blood –
and the trees
taller still than before
I’ve reckoned the sun
how she leans to the right
when no one is watching
but me
how she warms to my skin
as home she remembers –
a lantern set high
on the sea
sometimes morning
awakens the night –
with whispers of promise undone
prickled by weeds
berries and blossom –
fireflies skimming
the pond
bitterly sweet
scattered transgressions –
as who for another
moment would trade
dust from a memory
of life as we knew –
to wait for a night
in the shade
. . .

blessing, easy, grace, home, it's what I do, life, love, nature, smile, something here, the way, truth, without words
how many times
I’ve cursed
the slamming of the door
a backward glance
with nothing more to say
I’ve left my fears behind me
praying you might find me
some other time
you’d steal my breath
away
stay
that I might learn you
from all the things
you love
– the way you feel
the way you laugh –
the way you speak my name
sometimes I can’t but wonder
of another life
we made
morning spreads
her golden wings
as I lean upon the gate –
anchored to a life so undefined
tho not for this you tarry
something here won’t wait –
I love your smile
as sunlight
through the pines
. . .

the rain
remembers everything
the chill –
the warmth
the sun
she dances on my window
late at night
playing songs
forgotten me –
how could I have known
she shares with me
the memory
of winter’s sweet delight
buckets full
as creeks run o’er –
the river has no bounds
but for home
a lover seeks the sea
banks are lost
beneath the push
of pines against the waves
babies float
as ancients watch
for me
pure the smell
of mystery –
when flushed from neath
the clouds –
longing carved
to every standing stone
music rises
from the pound
of needles to the dirt
sins are lost
this wanting to atone
. . .

tempt not these eyes
with lust for the river
dried to my feet
by the sand
cursed as I might
the azure blue mountains –
for trust
I was want
to withstand
a blade freshly carved
from a goldenrod meadow
bends round my finger just so
imparting a mystery
my heart
deems to wonder –
on lives polished black
by my soul
I am mist
gathered places –
the essence of longing
as breath come to blush in the spring
oceans are pining
for one more forever –
a page washed away
as I dreamed

if ever
for my words you ache
just listen for the night –
the steady drum
of stars succumb
to heaven chasing light
the cry of crickets
fiddles ring
as shadows round are cast
cedar boughs
forgiven now –
are kneeling on the grass
the stir of
night birds waking
to find another song
things I might have told you
– they will hold you
when I’m gone

I was –
crushed beneath the shadows
bowing down my head
chasing truths
do you remember
how it was –
the giving in to silence
as the echo of ten thousand
tired boots
a night succumb
to whispers –
a morning without shame
lights beyond the highway
burning sand
do you remember
was I with you
when the mountains
fell around
as waters rushed
to fill an empty land
I know you now
as I knew you then
another life
with nothing changed
this sweet goodnight
bathed in light
is reason
why we came

there’s a cloud
above the meadow
where ancient starlings spin
twelve across
as one
their feathers glide
slicing through my morning
a reflection of the sun
as cedars press around
on every side
clementine and ash
are twisted by the barn
a piece of lace
left over from the spring
crickets come alive
for a pleasure
born of shade
and I still lie awake
to hear them sing
