give my path
a weight of sand
words
the grace of birds
anchored by a dreamer
ten thousand songs
unheard
carry me
where rivers grieve
moments not yet lost
give my heart
a boundless sea
desperate to cross

always on my way, courage, days, distance, home, journey, life, love, miles, pilgrimage, stars, truth, witness, worth

what longing
might I best defend
as distance
unsubstantial
winding roads
lines across between
rivers
here I left my tears
forests I surrendered
a mile or two
beyond this best I know
time has folded over
the map that is my heart
til nothing
short of silence
feels the same
garnered by permission
to go
as once I came
before the dawn
an ageless earth –
endless virgin seas
countless intersections
stars to see me home
memories
to grace the days
between

20 Wednesday Oct 2021

were there signs
we failed to notice
edges faded gray
words we lost in speaking
as hearts for others
paid
other lives
we left forsaking
what might be our last goodbye
what might wait
beyond the sunset
coral wings
against the night
without fault
without remembrance
lest our days be counted less
than a moment
life was traded –
soul for soul
breath for breath
were there signs
we gave each other
memory carved into the soul
touching places
we were lovers –
coming home
and letting go

beyond the night, birth, death, heaven, home, life, love, spirit, time, when I've forgotten you, without end

tis not for death
to ease this ache –
or steal from life this grace
no darkness could contain
the way love is
tis not for earth
a pound of stone –
a place to lay me down
cold beyond the memory
of your kiss
was not for solace
a soul returned –
come to bring me home
no heaven I remember
more than this

09 Monday Aug 2021

had i reason
to remember –
a map that held my name
roads I never traveled
feel the distance
just the same
when lights are low
and you are there
awaiting
my return
i hear your voice
sometimes –
feel your presence
with the dawn
sometimes i swear
you linger in the shadows
of my lawn
a smile
I’ve ne’er forgotten
my kiss still
on your lips
had i something
left to barter –
weathered poetry
writ down
the memory of somewhere
we remain
we are found
beyond the reach of never
close enough to now
waiting still the way
would bring you
home

summer rests
in humid slumber –
the soothing drum
of ten thousand bees
lone cicadas roll as shadow
against the heart
a storm of wings
silence sweet
her music rocks me
as evening falls
and lights come out
witness feels the soul
with pleasure –
the proof of love
we dreamed about

age, another time, heart, home, in another life, love, memory, parallel lives, presence, spirit, time, truth, what we keep

in another life
the coffee can wait
time is forgotten
as whiskers
memorize my skin
but I’ll not complain
for fear of less
the wait
to drift between
fragile as these worlds
of might have been
in another life
kids are laughing
you are laughing too
a smile invades your eyes
as I concede
hands reach out
across the day –
a distance not so far
a touch
as I’m reminded
not to leave
in another life
years are past
and still you hold my hand
echoes of a lifetime
nearly gone
folded into letters
tucked against
my heart –
souls are faded
nearly into one
in another life
water falls
blue into the light
my feet are bare
the river cold
as cedars rise above
songbirds sit on branches
familiar as their songs –
silence waits
the welcome of your
love

for my touch
another pined –
another held my name
tore my fences down
to find the gate
who are you
really
a why I can’t explain –
lifetimes gone
before
a fleeting grace
tho not so much
not so many
babies
brothers
branches
bluebells bursting glory
mercies
gathered whole
remembered me
when I could hardly stand
let them stain
if you remain
let them ta me
home

before the bloom
became of dreams –
meadows without end
fraught with yellows
denim blue
and bark
before the sun
recalled in death
the sanctity of time –
was tempt to spin
hastened by the dark
who am I
can you forgive
what of me was less
a cotton robe
dirty soles
ruby reds to kiss
before the bloom
was sacrificed
perfume filled the air
pastures bathed in splendor –
with nothing to
compare

from slumber
I am taken –
lest my dreams
return for me
lest my covers ache
the essence
of my sin
when the moon is perched
along the southern eve
let him weep
let him find me distant
find me gone
succumb to all was
missing –
surrendered not to fate
one more day
I dare not spend it now
steal me from
the cool embrace
of sheets just off the line
shatter my
allegiance
to the night
