was Monday
unimagined –
to Saturdays before
stars aligned
to make for us a way
was never meant for keeping
a photograph to fade
a dream I had
relearning –
the curs’ed hands of fate

you smiled
and I remember
how everything was right
clocks were stopped
babies cried –
the universe went still
as words were tumbled
shaken by a kiss familiar so
would take of me
my memory –
far more than days
could fill

was Friday
and the stores were closed
leaves were falling down –
winter blew feathers
from the nest
as lives forgiven –
hope remained
this promise to redeem
were moments
come of Mondays –
different from the rest

. . .

fell together ~

breath, fate, history, let me, morning, remembering, seasons, stars, story, time, truth

we fell together
one night in march
when winds still warned
of an aching heart
you went home
and I pretending
of another day
we’d fall again

last night I slept
in a field of sand –
eighteen miles
of forgotten land
married you somewhere
in between
our first goodbye
and a place of dreams

you made plans
of a life beyond
the getting over –
the getting on
I sewed stars
from last night’s sleep
never worried long
for one to keep
faceless names
and ageless babies –
years between
the time we made
beneath the dark
of winter sky
another day
one more goodbye

one more hello
and a field remembers
seeds put down
one late September
for every dawn
there’s another sun
never meant to cheat
the road we’re on

faceless names
and ageless babies –
years between
the time we made
you make breakfast
and I’ll sleep in –
wrapped in stories
we fall again

. . .

the weight of slumber ~

as twilight burns
and dreams are come
from not so far
away
for every truth I left
behind –
another with me
stays

stars that never falter
shimmer silver grey
tho not surprised
as I remember
eyes that warmed
the same

I’ve moved along
from places dear –
but stay with me
somehow
in dreams
the weight of slumber
is split by friendly
swords

. . .

evermore to spend ~

longing
paints a picture
with colors still I bleed
crimson red raspberry
melon sweet
harbingers
of stories rent
lessons yet to learn
lives are reconstructed
over tea

promise
I was sworn to keep
with words
forgotten now
whispers of a truth
I put away
are breathed anew each morning
and folded into rhyme –
evermore to spend
another day

moments
gather silent
in dust beneath my bed
circles to the table
souvenirs
of seasons
unremembered
before I knew your name –
lives I traded
just to find you here

. . .

essence of longing ~

life, love, mystery, nature, seasons, soul memory, the way, trust, wonder

tempt not these eyes
with lust for the river
dried to my feet
by the sand
cursed as I might
the azure blue mountains –
for trust
I was want
to withstand

a blade freshly carved
from a goldenrod meadow
bends round my finger just so
imparting a mystery
my heart
deems to wonder –
on lives polished black
by my soul

I am mist
gathered places –
the essence of longing
as breath come to blush in the spring
oceans are pining
for one more forever –
a page washed away
as I dreamed

. . .

ways I cursed ~

blessing, hope, it's what I do, life, love, seasons, spoken aloud, time, truth, wonder

when at last
the wind is gone
and all the seeds dispersed
when comes a night
so cold it fills
my bones
will then
I cease to wonder –
do you understand
me now –
the ways I cursed
when first you came
and I was found
somehow

burst as bloom
returned of spring –
one april day I woke
found you there
with ne’er a word to say
who knows
how long
forever takes –
where and when I’ll find
the seed I let
to go
just yesterday

chance, destiny, echoes, holding you here, life, love, memory, places we have loved, seasons, spirit, time, winter

are there days
when you are haunted
whispers to your heart –
a melody you gave to me
so long ago

echoes through the winter
where once you gave it reign
without a thought
to losing all
you know

are there mornings
folded soft
against the certainty of time
a sunrise burning hot
against your soul

. . .

kept to silence ~

as morning
burns away the night
– afternoon arrives
forgiven us already
for staying in

wonder sits
in sleepy eyes –
where mystery is made
longing kept to silence –
light to skin

allowance, breath, forgiveness, grace, intent, life, lifetimes, love, moments, seasons, the illusion of letting go, time

were there moments
strung together –
webs between the lights
eternities
we gathered home
to dust

for another
once I wandered
out beyond the sense
of light –
forsaking of the magic
that was us

. . .

crush ~

age, blessings, brave enough to die, courage, faith, home, it's what I do, love, seasons, time, truth

are there roses
where you planted winter wheat
I had that happen
once
when you were here
it came as no surprise
that the frost
had nearly gone
when briars pushed their way
despite the fear
I recognized
when first was held
at mercy to the pain
but couldn’t bear
the thought of letting go
ashes fall in autumn
just when the weeds turn brown
tis there I grieve
for love as none –
as tears within the snow
