I remember all I’ve learned –
the more I know
the more I love
in moments
such as these
the breezes lift
a fragile piece
of yesterday reminders
of swirling leaves
a warmth becoming mine
days before
and wishes for another
maybe then
we would know the truth
an eternity burned
in moments
such as these

my days
ten thousand windows
pressed against the sun
another time
forgotten now the way
where mornings burst
in red and shadows –
paper hyacinth
lavenders while sleeping
I returned –
to watch the world beginning
beneath an ancient dawn
where once before
you urged me dream
again

had I been gifted
one more eternity –
another virgin dawn
to linger
o’er mysteries
almost understood
saved from nights repented
and set to loose again
days returning –
a baby cried
with want for one last kiss
a lifetime never lost –
by counting done

remembered now
as time when time was lost
voices boomed from somewhere
I don’t know
plans were changed and schedules made
for consequence uncertain
I’d meant to stand
and watch your essence fade
but instead – it was the universe
willed another way –
and knew it then
was more than I could do
moments staring blankly
at the movement made by hands
tides were turning backwards
to the moon
eternal tears – immortal place
dreams were letting go
and wished I (more than once)
for one more life
for holding near (holding on)
pages to the wind
words I still can taste
delight my tongue
with passing unexpected
changed by more than birth
forever penned a moment
to my soul

living apart
from the place
where love
remains with me
written somewhere
on my heart

was reason clear

show me

I’ve heard tell
of a place not far
of a moment
eternal
together we are
as lovers beginning
breathing as one
a star undimmed
by the dawn
is weaved
into silence
carried by name
when once
we were here
forever the same
a sigh in the darkness
is whispered aloud
becoming the reason
remember me now
in dreams
far removed
from another sweet
prayer
when nights
I’m resolved
to come for you
there

in the gracious greys
of just before
sunlight spills the dawn
darkness pulls
his tender heart
to mine
silence rings
with angels
rafters bend and sway
heaven wanders
not so far –
not so far away
from evermore returning
words without a sound
to grieve ten thousand
mornings
with a sigh
love is but a moment
of light before
the dawn
a dream denied
the safety
of the night
Author’s Note: As the result of an ectopic pregnancy in 1984 , she required
a blood transfusion. It saved her life, but took something in return.
Testing wasn’t the norm, and she contracted Hepatitis C. It would
not relent, and claimed permanence via liver cancer in 2012. This weekend,
hospice was called in.
She waits, and those who love her pray for a miracle. And yet,
already she is one. For Q with love always.

of winters –
of places where the spring

wrapped around
a bitter bark –
falling into sorrow
a time to keep

held us here
with promise –
with want for one last time
a life reserved
if ever fate allowed
given will to gather
lest we choose
another way –
beholding not to
consequence
somehow
changing
as were seasons
passing us to years –
golden crowns
with ribbons furling grey
wherein our faith
is measured –
a truth
we carry still
of times we lived
for this –
another day
