sailing

my days
ten thousand windows
pressed against the sun
another time
forgotten now the way
where mornings burst
in red and shadows –
paper hyacinth
lavenders while sleeping
I returned –
to watch the world beginning
beneath an ancient dawn
where once before
you urged me dream
again

. . .

these hands ~

these hands

have I naught
one memory
of hands –
my hands before
maps were drawn
lines impressed –
a softer
winter canvas lay
where
was I
the captain
of some other ancient star
oceans slid
beneath
my one desire
message buried
deeper still
than e’er my love
command
cast about –
written down
another world created –
where flowers burst
from whispers –
touch
beyond
these hands

. . .

a little ~

toloveyoumore

twas late
for the season
berries and passion
before e’er another
conceived us to be
where the sweet
lull of lavender wafted
the summer
well past the turning
of (wishes to) leaves
when dragons hummed
at the mention of dark
louder than any
were known to recall
honeybee sunsets
cicadas when all we were
wanting was some
other reason to count
without counting
back (missing)
the swell of July
and the bittersweet
sting of blackberry
why did you go
when knowing I’d grieve
you (a little) this way
or write to your
wanting
(some other one day)
when honeysuckle
bloomed past the edges
of june
(unashamed of her
timing) –
her wasted perfume

from here

how vast the realms
of I confess
a portion of my soul
was scattered
silver seeds
among the stars
wished upon by dreamers
awakened by the night
a canopy of stories –
with thread
the same as mars
smoke that stills
the canyons
before a raging storm
is captured to
the mirror I am holding
in my arms
eyes in shades
of abalone
words I know by heart
are whispered
by the sailor –
carried by the sea
backwards to a moment
unremembered
overheard by sparrows
sharing secrets
with the dark

. . .

showme

will
and I wonder
to places unknown
forgotten the weeds –
my way back to home
a secret
unspoken
by lovers and thieves
echoed by crickets
knees
touching knees
a hymnal
of feathers
as light through the pines
souvenirs left by
the rain
where was I going
who waits the dawn
with promise
of heaven
to love me
again

Author’s Note: I love the woods and I love the shore. A couple of years back, while sitting on my porch, I closed my eyes and raised my face to the sun. But the breeze, he told me something more. In that moment, I noticed the song that is the fluttering of leaves. It is the same as the waves on the shore. I wonder who knew it first, but wonder not at the love that allowed them to share it.

how tender
these blessings of
sapphire and pearl
oceans singing
of leaves

sweetly

where
the wind
a moment spoke
in breezes
to the ocean –
a time or two
when trusted you
to stay

whispers
wake me –
all the night
around me wraps
with wanting
for one more time
– one more
yesterday

to live within
this consequence –
sworn to breathless
morning –
sometimes
I feel your presence
moving there

wondering
of where the winds
and where –
the waves are singing
songs I once
remembered
everywhere

. . .

Author’s note: I love the ocean – and the mountains. When I am on the shore,
I can close my eyes, and there – the sound of leaves pushing one into another.
When among the trees, I close my eyes and hear waves upon the sand. The
songs are the same – love speaks a language all can understand.
A story told by evergreen writ upon the tides.

stillme (2)

he saved for her
the sunset
he’d been painting (all his life)
as crimson bled
to orange
purple green
a lover’s rite
reflections of the day
he found her standing
near the shore
held her (without speaking)
brushed a dress
of finest oil
silken sable
tipped with gold
steady made her curls
she came to him each night
as was created
other worlds beneath the canvas
(was there life
beyond this one)
he heard the shutters heave
the rafters roar
calmed again the artist’s storm
he found the solace (her)
meadow green
with silver shoes
and palest pink (her stutter)
took his breath
and held him close
in pools of cocoa bean
he knew her
every (blush of) imperfection
had painted her in places
always new
this world of his
how far away
twilight had confessed
to midnight hue
where sunset fell
in shadows (she is waiting)
sapphire blue

time

across the plains
which have no master –
tides rewritten
carve the sand
steps removed
my solace journey
lifetimes passed
to where I stand

kept aside
with places sacred
each divined
no less than these
rain is falling
now the river –
wanders far
with sweet release

echoes fall
as green to timber –
light to lacey
fingers glean
silence weighs
the reach of sorrow
broken bough of
nature’s dream

life returns
to guard the stillness
darkness pressed
beyond the shoals
seasons pass
as sands are shifted
sunlight bathes
the willing soul

. . .

I can find no place ~
no course of understanding
would still my beat
or bid my breathing slow

nurtured
by my father’s winds
reliving now the promise ~
fell to me
tis something more
I know

tis there beneath
the robin’s wing ~
there atop the rapids
flush with stone
the proof is come to stay

lines between the lines ~
would e’er I stand
and will the ground away

with memory of becoming
a love (as love created)

miracles becoming
stretched beyond the reaches
of our rhyme
