when I’ve forgotten
will you promise
to carry all I love
into another day –
another life
when I’ve let the image go
of the oak
outside my door –
the smell of wood smoke
drifting through the pines
will you carry
will you tarry –
a moment more for me
when I’ve forsaken
every proof
of time
will you reminisce
as I have now –
on places I was loved
on dreams
I hope you dream
enough to find
a place apart
from everything –
a light where there are none
solace in these
memories
of mine

mercy finds us
sorely tempted –
at the end of letting go
clinging
as the final light
to fade
tis then
within our darkness
we remember why we came
and what is left
of every moment
made
regardless
our surrender –
or the lack of one to give
days are counted
back to us
the same
as keepers
sworn to memory
gifted us this way
as lifetimes
recollected
by name

you were the color of truth
in a black and white world –
bloom to a blanket of weed
the warmth of September
toasting my skin –
an answer
to every need
you were the first cool breath
freed from the river
a comfort when dark pressed around
a shadow of sparrows
high in the trees –
waiting our time
a reminder of song
you are my thought
at the end of remembrance
when all is forgotten –
love will remain
whispered aloud to the stars
– warming my kiss
with your name

from this place
of reverence –
a breath recalled anew
each taking back –
to somewhere just beyond
the depth
from which emotions rise –
a prayer I know by heart
reminders of each truth
I lingered on
forsaken to remembrance
as distance falls away –
ferried out across
a boundless sea
to a home
that suits my longing –
grace when I am lost
– love returns
with strength
to carry me

seems I found
my way –
I been searching
o so long
never knew
it was this easy
as the words
from some sweet song
to listen
as my heart resounds
with echoes
from above –
whispers
please remember me
to the story
of your love

it seems
as I’ve forgotten
the hurting side of me
bent in place
a damn disgrace
now a mystery
folded into shadow
and pressed against the boards
a whole lot more than memory
was trapped
beneath that door
so hurry now
the day is waning
and feathers chase the night
dragons cry
a liquid sky –
of whispers bearing light
(as tender fall
our wishes all around)

had I known
the day was ending
and there would be
for me
no more
might I have loved
a little deeper –
for the loves
I’d known before
remaining with
my solace –
like a hurt
that wouldn’t mend
was a place
beyond the telling –
I would never be
again

daylight burns
ten thousand sins
tho not a one
for good
prayers I’ve saved
as loves unnamed
yet there against the rub
of one more day
one more sigh
wet upon my tongue
locust croon a favored song
– as I’m remembered
home

was a time
I might have fretted –
December days
without a call
a moment of concession
longing miles –
none at all
with a whisper of
remember me
another place
where time began
how funny now
my grieving weighs
each start to start again
January soon will pass
within a numbered
swell of tides
to ease the ache
of missing –
a voice
where love
abides
