circle me round
to infinite graces
guard me to strength
come heavy
the sun

trace with these hands
the lock –
and the leper
see with your eyes
make whole
as to one

I knew from the knowing
was certain
to find –
my ways
through the fields
yesterday

held for a moment
in forests of green –
burned with a light
was your own
I embrace

. . .

beyond the reach of always ~

wondering

beyond
the reach of always
where questions
often hide
tis there you love –
as wings above
the tide

how many
are the lives between
the first
the last and then –
a place
we’ve yet to understand
awaits our time
again

I wonder
when the moon is filled
do you linger with
its rise
across the page
of ages past –
to sit atop
the sky

. . .

notfar

along these shores
forever walks
a sailor not forgotten –
strands beneath a winter sail
make his passing true
stories of deliverance
tales of wealth and sorrow
dreams to sink beneath the waves
the rest to float away

but on another bank
there sometimes stands
a maiden gift with promise
words worn through
by circumstance
I swore I’d never cry

life is passing slowly
the waves of time are falling –
and he still sails
come home
remember this –
remember me
the keeping of your compass
grains of sand adrift upon the sea

come again
leave her arms –
returning to the river
the ocean cries –
o please return to me
cast aside your tired oars
and step out on forever
I’ll watch the tide –
and walk the shores for you

. . .

beyond the breath of time

already now
the twilight rests
against the threat of night
where dreams
I can’t recall
await my sleep
already there
I’m missing you
without regard for days

another dawn
beyond my will to keep

a name unspoken
in silence stills
to bring this aging heart
to tears
released the want
of wanting left –
to find of heaven
moments here

a place removed
unclaimed by grief
beyond the realm
of yesterdays
returning light
an endless sun –
where I am yours
to love
always

could it be

remembered now
as time when time was lost
voices boomed from somewhere
I don’t know
plans were changed and schedules made
for consequence uncertain
I’d meant to stand
and watch your essence fade
but instead – it was the universe
willed another way –
and knew it then
was more than I could do
moments staring blankly
at the movement made by hands
tides were turning backwards
to the moon
eternal tears – immortal place
dreams were letting go
and wished I (more than once)
for one more life
for holding near (holding on)
pages to the wind
words I still can taste
delight my tongue
with passing unexpected
changed by more than birth
forever penned a moment
to my soul

. . .

missed ~

wow

when from these tired
bones is wrought
the last of misery
when all I know
is how I loved –
while breath
was gifted me

when from this place
stories are blown
to fill an eastern sky
will then my name
be spoke aloud
by strangers
passing by

when from my silence
words are cleft –
as secrets from a kiss
as ever –
still shall love remain
to fill each
emptiness

I was a story
born of will and ink
before I knew
to know you well
for all I was ~
another choice
with one more truth
to tell
another me
some other time
tho lifetimes lay between
the start
and this beginning
was nothing
as it seemed
of birth and breath
goodbye and then
to meet again somewhere
beyond the grace
of giving ~
another dream to share
where weaving
I have noticed
lines to write anew
seasons come from waiting
watching –
a moment
passing thru

sweetlythis

he spoke
of distant mornings
(a light she strained to see)
she wrote
of lowly purpose
filled with love
(and mystery)

he listened
as she listened
they talked
(and talked some more)
of the road
they passed together
another way
(sometime) before

he spoke
of ancient winters
(a field where brothers fell)
she spoke
in careful whispers
of a loss
she grieved (as well)

he cried
and she was tender
(in the catching of each tear)
she reached
to find him (waiting)
(with want
to have her) near

he stayed
(beyond the leaving)
lest she ever think
him gone
as she woke
beyond the darkness
a star
(for wishing on)

loved before

tis not for fame
this heart returns –
for secrets left untold
– a souvenir of longing
a solace
never sold

to start anew
denied the past
where I was loved
before
a place I scarce remember –
wills me home
once more

silence

how seldom this
the beautiful
from which I beg release
nights to nurse
the darkness
without shame
whispers
started long ago
secrets let me tell
about the boy –
I dare not speak his name

or suffer bliss
a moment more
than death will take
of me
warmth to ease
the restlessness between
our first kiss
and forever –
illusion of a sort
lessons –
lest I wonder still
what of all love means
