I kept ribbons
in the kitchen
to tie around my heart
weakness come familiar –
as sunday morning
loaves
saturdays
a pudding cut with rum
who is there
to blame me
for moments without shame
allowing all
remembering of none
washed away
as evidence –
was here
I spent the night
pushed against
the oven –
clutching to a spoon
I kept my ribbons
close at hand
licked my fingers clean
braided into locks
of cappucine

these arms
resist the morning
when daylight breaks anew –
attempts to hold
what can’t be held –
a flame that burns
clear through
the haunted taste of promise
still lingers on these lips –
a plea surrendered
softly –
as the moon
became a kiss
evidence I waited
and all I dared concede –
drifting at the edges
dreams –
won’t let me be
these hands
are stiff with longing
for paradise they know
passage given
let me in –
a torture letting go

come to me
one more time
with scarlet suns and meadows blue
places fair
I move between
as every path returns to you

with questions why
tho who can say –
what remains
of what shall be
familiar song I sang for you
as empty arms
remembered me

shall I return
(you know I will)
as sure the orchids fade to gray
along the wood
where once we loved –
longing bears the rest
away

another pined –
another held my name
tore my fences down
to find the gate
who are you
really
a why I can’t explain –
lifetimes gone
before
a fleeting grace
tho not so much
not so many
babies
brothers
branches
bluebells bursting glory
mercies
gathered whole
remembered me
when I could hardly stand
let them stain
if you remain
let them ta me
home

there is no
left
no always right –
just a blur
where things went wrong
a moment you were here –
then you were
gone

balanced
among strangers
for eyes in search
of mine –
a hunger so familiar
seems my only
every time

beyond the blur
of wandering –
a wrong forgotten now
right returned
unnoticed
and I was saved
somehow

of grey November –
bluest feathers
ashes fell
into secrets
I remembered not to tell
lest they soar away
pearly blue
wingeds seeking flight
floating into echoes
all can hear
will another sun
be realized
things I whispered there
written to your skin –
upon your soul
will I remember silence traded
when I’ve forgotten
every word –
will love become
the only voice
I know

lest the dawn arrive –
shall we linger
with our dreams
decided not the weight
for days ahead
let us languish
still unknowing
as one with all
we keep –
safe within the breath
of words unsaid

undeclared
the portion
if you must go
then go beside –
leave the heart where I
am moored
the sanctity of home
a velvet understanding
forgiven to the light
pressed against
the certainty
of morn

age is suited
perfectly
to take the last of me –
a willing breath
wreaks of summertime
memories of all
everything
I came to find
pieces stitched together
let undone
who will notice
who will claim
mercies more than doubt
of days before
the end was known –
places dreamed about
who shall mourn
as nights grow long –
the pastures dressed
in snow
who will speak my name
aloud –
when the ground is
hard and cold

before the bloom
became of dreams –
meadows without end
fraught with yellows
denim blue
and bark
before the sun
recalled in death
the sanctity of time –
was tempt to spin
hastened by the dark
who am I
can you forgive
what of me was less
a cotton robe
dirty soles
ruby reds to kiss
before the bloom
was sacrificed
perfume filled the air
pastures bathed in splendor –
with nothing to
compare
