burdens
I’ve endured
for the sake of one
more life –
another chance
to live as I have loved
to sail beyond
the silver seas –
your eyes become sometimes
enchanted by your smile
to be undone
burdens
not so heavy –
graces yet to trade
one thousand count
linens folded
round
a place
where we are nothing
but a promise
to remain –
as near
to breath becoming –
for this reason
I was made

whatever this
as lives between
depths beyond the dark
some distance
undecided by a word
a heart
without memory
but fearful still
of touch
trembles at the thought
of prying fingers

silence now
the sweet erase
of breath
where breath is gone
succumb to praise
emptied of goodbye
a psalm
we never sang
blessed recognition
was here
we knew the first
of love
enough

for nothing
waits to fill the void
with graces –
yet unspoken
blue beyond
where sighs
are come
to wing

author’s note: sometimes the will to sleep exceeds my reach. fingers
fumble in the darkness – becoming wings – a pen greedy for release

when I’ve forgotten
who would dare
to speak of you that way
reminders to a heart
nearly healed
who will be
first to whisper
each time
my laughter falls
counting not
my tears
have burned away
when I’ve forgotten
who will come
to fill these empty
arms –
a muse to take
your place
another day
who will know
of memories –
I’ve tucked where none
can see –

i have no say
in destinies
chance another wrought
no proof
you held my hand
or kissed my lips
as lifetimes felt
beneath your touch
eternities denied
as breath where words
are tangled
love persists

a page or two
folded now
held against my breast
tethered to a moment
we remain
beyond the hold
of circumstance
within the reach
of dreams
a sigh to wear
the memory
of your name

i have no say
in destinies
chance another wrought
no proof
you held my hand
or kissed my lips

while I dreamed
forever tilted….
and I was thrown from bed
betrayed by sleep
as voices filled my head
as mercies –
broke the window
crossed the lawn
forgotten to the arms
I prayed would linger
forsaken by uncertainty
gifted by the dawn

while I slept
there came another
life imagined
left behind –
packed inside a box
I couldn’t find
names I barely recognized
a photograph misplaced –
coffee was my solace
a mystery divine

while I dreamed
heaven emptied –
wishes floated to
the dark
but for one –
a single star for you
webs I’d spun to hold me
were answered to my heart
beyond the clouds
the sun came burning
through

how far
from where you left me –
are there traces to be found
broken twigs
whispers
marks upon the ground

places
I may find you –
lest I search beyond the veil
for the path you took
and there my heart
as well

branches bent
to block the sun –
winter wheat to ash
no one keeps your memory
and I can’t bear to ask

which way
the moon will follow
to find a promise made
past the barn
down the night –
another once we lay

how far
from where you left me
are there traces to be found
