come around some sunday, kiss, life, love, memory, moments, shared habits, spirit, stars, tell me, time, truth
make sense of me
when I cannot –
read my story o’er
throw me in the fountain
– make a wish with me
for more
then tell them how
tell them everything
you dared believe once true
of how it was I sought
and where I found you
of lifetimes passed
and moments spread
to breach the will of time
whispers made to blankets
as you were made to mine
shared a breath
became a secret –
of lives before this one is spent
longing forgave the kiss
became
a holy sacrament

when I’ve forgotten
will you promise
to carry all I love
into another day –
another life
when I’ve let the image go
of the oak
outside my door –
the smell of wood smoke
drifting through the pines
will you carry
will you tarry –
a moment more for me
when I’ve forsaken
every proof
of time
will you reminisce
as I have now –
on places I was loved
on dreams
I hope you dream
enough to find
a place apart
from everything –
a light where there are none
solace in these
memories
of mine

breath, comfort, counted days, love, memory, moments, sometimes, soul, spirit, story, surrender, time, truth, why we came
mercy finds us
sorely tempted –
at the end of letting go
clinging
as the final light
to fade
tis then
within our darkness
we remember why we came
and what is left
of every moment
made
regardless
our surrender –
or the lack of one to give
days are counted
back to us
the same
as keepers
sworn to memory
gifted us this way
as lifetimes
recollected
by name

is this the day
I might have traded
for another life somewhere
cotton sheets
and sunday morning –
with nothing much
to spare
melodies
you played to me
are stretched along the line
as the scent
of summer storms
swirls beneath
the pines
a crooked board
a broken cup –
rings I’ve traced before
moments I was wanting
for another –
so much more
whispers bind
my life of pieces –
and everything is new
hands are fit together
as I’m falling
into you

another me, becoming, breath, destiny, life, love, memory, moments, sorrow, spirit, stars, time, truth, wishes, words
for every sorrow
I was traded –
for a wish
beneath the stars
a breath
that was my pillow
spared of dreams
words
are given pardon
and a place
I still belong –
carried me
cross every night
between
becoming this
a lover’s rite
spun into a page –
verses wrapped
in verses
senseless rhyme
remembered
to another
where destinies
entwined –
wishes fell
to break the spell
of time

she said
I can’t get back there
without a map
without a plan –
I need to hear a promise
now and then
he said
the only thing I own
is the memory of more
where empty arms
wait for you
again
she said
it sounds so simple
but where am I to start
with permission just this once
for letting go
he said
I wish I had the words
I’d tell you how I feel –
there’s nothing here
but everything
you know
she said
is love forsaken –
with want for a guarantees
when all I need from you
is all you are
he said
I’ll make it easy –
and wait out on the porch
from there into my heart
is not that far

Author’s Note: Years ago, I co-wrote a piece “Conversation”. I believe
it might have won a ribbon or two. But more than that, it made me realize
the “whole other world’ that exists within two. ❤

I’ve heard tell
you can’t go back
to a place beyond remembrance –
a story never yours
never will
I cheated
each surrender –
sometimes without regard
to worlds I left
another
standing still
with fortunes
undecided
by a kiss I scarce recall
– a jealous moon
seeks payment
for a kiss
I am all
as I am nothing
lines across your brow –
a moment spared
for every one
I missed

you were the color of truth
in a black and white world –
bloom to a blanket of weed
the warmth of September
toasting my skin –
an answer
to every need
you were the first cool breath
freed from the river
a comfort when dark pressed around
a shadow of sparrows
high in the trees –
waiting our time
a reminder of song
you are my thought
at the end of remembrance
when all is forgotten –
love will remain
whispered aloud to the stars
– warming my kiss
with your name

what of this –
a sure reminder
of all that’s gone
now come again
weightless dreams
ten thousand summers
– wishes carried
on the wind
for one more day
one more season –
another time
when this one ends
daylight falls
across the meadow –
to bless the place
where we begin
