we were here
like this
I thought it was magic
the way the wind blew
songs thru my hair
how my life tasted
when blessed by your kiss
words
but a sigh
I remember it well
has it been forever
another life lived –
far from the place
you discovered me there
warmed by the stirring
a solace
I knew
was as near as your
heart
come to anchor
my own
. . .
26 Friday Aug 2022
do you remember
sleep we traded
for one more chance at love
a garden grew
in shadows of the barn
hearts for holding memory
promising our best –
would gather
every season
waited on
once before
i stood my ground
and put my maps away –
starlings black before the sun
could bake
dressed in purple flannel
i willed the stars collide
begging please
upon my knees –
another dream
to wake
longing keeps
no record –
of years betrayed
to moments here
curved against your spine –
a willing spoon
do you remember
how i worried
each time you tempted fate
trusting of our fortunes
to the moon
. . .

had i nothing
but one more ache –
another poem come of this
ashes swirl beyond the meadow
leaves returning
a golden bliss
silence fills
an almost whisper
breezes brush the tallest pines
remembered not
to indecision –
other worlds where stars align
bid me go
or let me linger –
will this earthly heart to slow
across and back
this everafter –
is home to every
love i’ve known
. . .

where was i
remembered –
as dew along the path
mosses where only briar grew
a slave to my intention
guarding passion
like a salve
was only me –
before the time of you
remembered us
the best of us
rust
as solace shared
let me be
hold me near
to places you are broken
the scar i gave
i didn’t mean
was anguish letting go
where rocks have grown
to fill the path
we know
another day
remembered me
for every promise made
glimmers of forever
signs before you came
let me be
honor me
with places you adore
a dream you shared
one summer night –
stilled my heart
for more
your touch
a trace of madness
stories sure to tell
empty skies
purple ribbon mornings
stars we plucked from rivers
as they fell
beyond our sight
was there i found you
waiting
carving shadows
into light
. . .

screen doors bang
disappointment –
as hearts rediscover the void
hands disconnect
as words tumble down –
like rain from
bucket
tears from a sieve
who I am now
to understand this
how you came to remember
all the reasons
to leave
. . .

this heart
it may be jaded –
these arms
tremble yet
fingers search in darkness
for your own
a moment
recreating –
the warmth that is your touch
a smile to learn –
a breath to bring me
home
these tired lungs
remember –
the crush of rivers cold
the curve
of ancient stones
beneath my skin
a time
absolved from passing –
cherished by the sea
from oceans
nearly empty
we begin
. . .
25 Saturday Jun 2022

i begged my heart
surrender
to the absolute of time
nights without you
cradled in my arms
i bartered peace
a place
would lay me down
to let you go
years before your soul
remembered mine
verses fall
weary
from hands
that knew you well –
curtains float
as whispers to the breeze
all i have
is no more than a store
of yesterdays
a season uninvited
silver cords
and silent pleas
. . .

sometimes
it seems that easy
the want to push away
thoughts of you
reminders
not mistaken
how afternoons could wane
a golden blissful heat
beyond the fence
anchored to my dreams
when I’ve forgotten
everything
I thought I knew to know
how deep
these recollections
bury me
how many dawns denied
that i would leave
the heart i love
married to a truth
i never thought
too much
would show
sometimes
it seems so easy
to forget the ways
i’ve come
beyond the fence
where once i fell
too far
to get me home
