sometimes
it seems that easy
the want to push away
thoughts of you
reminders
not mistaken
how afternoons could wane
a golden blissful heat
beyond the fence
anchored to my dreams

when I’ve forgotten
everything
I thought I knew to know
how deep
these recollections
bury me
how many dawns denied
that i would leave
the heart i love
married to a truth
i never thought
too much
would show

sometimes
it seems so easy
to forget the ways
i’ve come
beyond the fence
where once i fell
too far
to get me home

when I’ve forgotten
how to love –
give me strength to die
to tarry not beyond
my last goodbye

til words have left me empty
and all my blues are dried
turn the page
don’t wait for me
the night

when ashes float
eternal
atop a boundless sea –
will heaven take your heart
in search of me

let my grace be barter
with want for one
more day –
with love the only reason
left to stay

when I’ve forgotten how to love
give me strength to die

I confess
once you knew me
not as sure you know me now
when years have passed
my story changing –
and what of love
I dreamed about

might I stay
e’er you would listen
had I words and time to tell
of paths I took
of fate diverging –
far from ways
you knew me well

dare I speak
of sorrows tasted
recall anew a broken heart
remnants of a love
imagined –
when evermore
was not that far
