03 Tuesday May 2022

for a moment
(or a lifetime)
I forgot the way to breathe
the means to speak
I can’t recall
my name
was there before
I heard you
(whisper
me to life)
your fingers on
my pulse
forever (one more
time)
as if it were the only
my name betrayed
your voice
(echoes) of my heart
trapped
beneath your skin
breathed
(a sigh forgotten)
save for this
. . .
01 Sunday May 2022

was it intended
I find you
to forget everything
of loves I had thought would
be love
to forget how my dreams
were supposed to be safe –
not lost to the moment
your arms
wrapped around
I don’t know
I don’t care
why it is –
it is all
that I feel
from my oceans
my rivers
my tears
a moment I fall
without care for the end
forever returning
to the place
we begin
. . .
29 Friday Apr 2022
the deepest hurt
of all these hurts
come to make me poor
a servant to some other might have been
walked with you
a hundred miles –
i never thought to go
neglecting every
tearful sweet amen
the sweetest night
i can recall
was resting in your arms
listened as your heart
played songs
i knew
as every one
had written me
remember
can you hear
the way the drums are pounding
the way the cedars sway
listen
when i tell you
they will steal your breath
away
. . .

forgiveness, graces we've forgotten, home, life, love, poet, truth, words
i write
and i worry
for pages on end
suffice to decide what words
might erase
i write when there’s nothing
i need to let go
but the jab of my pencil
parchment and coal
i write my forgiveness
before it is asked
and where you are now
unasking
i write and i whittle
nights to defend
so sure my thoughts would arrive
somewhere else
if left for a moment
hung o’er my page
awaiting a memory to come
i write in the places
i thought i would end
and pull up the margins
behind
i write
. . .
22 Friday Apr 2022
from a distant place
we wondered
to find this place
(we are)
tempting fate
each time your eyes
meet mine
wherever I was destined
tis only this
recalled
familiar (as a breath)
another place
and time
whatever hurts
these lessons leave
(promise I surrendered)
a store of dreams
unburdened
by my bed
carried my confession
to let (as you would have)
the truth I dared betray
to words
I left unsaid
. . .

sometimes
i get busy
sometimes a day
or maybe two
pass before
i realize
i’m missing thoughts
of you
there’s been no change
in weather –
predictions
of a jealous moon
moved to retribution
by shadows come
to bloom
the sun has dipped
beyond the trees
where even now –
twilight glows
as fear
remit by silence –
grace
in letting go
. . .
21 Thursday Apr 2022

til I’ve forgotten
how to breathe –
let this be my one
reserve of truth
the last I knew
another way would come
a shallow breath
neglected –
forsaking all for this
e’en now my heart
is sated
by my name
upon your lips
sassafras and berry
vines to draw me near
frozen creeks
fields of winter hay
morning waits
whatever dreams
are mine to understand
wherever you –
I will find a way
. . .
17 Sunday Apr 2022

these arms
have ne’er forgotten
the warmth
that was your touch
fingers still to ache
beneath the burn
verses grieve
a loss of words –
pleas for one more time
destiny
rewritten
sacred rhyme
my soul
protects the memory –
of other
lives I missed
my heart
denied the breaking
by your kiss
. . .

had I days
left to squander –
time to give away
the right of grace
sorrows broken free
from everything we wanted
everything we changed
where comes my love
with promise
e’er to be –
a dying wish
a bitter taste –
forgiveness I let lie
negated by the winter
some solace
given here
shall I wait
forever –
this purpose to
receive
another
one more life
to hold you near
